A Different Parking Brake idea...

I didn't want to hijack the othe thread about a parking brake so....

For some reason I just don't care for the looks & location of the other parking brake. Also, that it appears to be cable operated.

So, after giving it a brief thought, I'm thinking that this might be accomplished electrically and run thru the ignition switch so that when the key is off, the brake would be on. It would use one of the rear disc brakes and wouldn't have to have near the strength of the caliper(s).

this really doesn't sound too difficult. I may have the electronics parts at work and will check my catalogs for the mechanical portion(s) on Monday.

I have have to believe that I am not the only person to have thought of this.

I would be interested in your design. I do not have a parking brake at this time and would like to have one that is neat and tidy in appearance. Hope you come up with something.

With it activating when ignition turned off would it have any drain on the battery while engaged ? sounds interesting on what you want to try. keep us posted ThumbUp

You would also need a hand switch to disengage it if you need to move the trike manually

Battery drain & Moving with no Electrical power - two very good points that would need to be considered.

I like the idea as well. I think that the battery drain would be the biggest concern. If you want to move the bike, just turn the switch on, move the bike, turn it back off.
Also, if you were to loose power because of a switch issue, would it lock up your brakes while moving?

I have always used two battery's on the trike, so maybe you could use one battery for the parking brake system you want to try ? my second battery is installed under the passenger seat . just a thought . (they are both DEKA's)

Just go to your local truck stop and buy a folding wheel-chalk,, they all sell them,, there under 10 bucks.. And they work just fine...
