The new Tourpak has a very different contour on the top but I see no separate '14 model part numbers for luggage racks in the new catalog. Does anybody know if the `13 and older style fits? One of the first mods I would like to make on the new scooter is install an Airwing Rack.

I have the air wing rack, sorry I did over the premium rack. Luggage won't fit flat on rack and the LED light is useless. Check first before u buy.

Sorry to hear that PIGGI. I had the Airwing on my previous bike and the T-Bags Horseshoe bag I have fit just fine.

Iv'e got hard bags that fit the premium rack and the air wing has a smaller rack size. If you use soft bags size don't matter, at least thats what the wife tells me all the time. :D

For the luggage rack to fit correctly on the '14's it needs to be wider so it can get the support from the sides of the lid for the weight. If it is too narrow it can flex the lid, & ultimately break the lid. Harley won't stand good for it either ! Your dime !!
If I were to put the old style for the '13's & earlier on the '14's I would first get a letter from Harley, or who ever you purchase it from that it wouldn't break the lid, or they would replace it!

How on earth could they do that, they would have no idea what or how much weight you put on it!
If they say the lid will withstand 25#, & you come in with a broken lid all they have to say about it is you obviously overloaded the luggage rack, otherwise it wouldn't have broken.
The same if you have a rack on the lid & the tether breaks. You must have had much too much weight on the rack when that happened. You must have just thrown the lid back with that weight on it & that is why the tether failed. A number on here have had just that problem !
That being said,,,, A good dealer will go ahead & help you with the problem, but they are far & few between.

I'm confused by your two post. First you say get a letter saying they would cover it if it breaks them you say they would say you had too much weight on it? That's what I was pointing out.

Buy the rack, but don't go overboard on strapping anything heavy on it. The most I've ever put on it was my leather jacket and a pair of chaps.
I personnally would never put a big piece of luggage on it like I see many do.

In regards to the tether, I just attached a piece of screen door chain as a back up. Total cost $3. Used the same screws to mount it. Got the idea from another thread.

GARDY I wrapped a piece of nylon cord (orange) around the existing cable but did not use the screws. If one of the screws comes loose the whole system will fail. These tour paks are too flimsy to start with and they are too expensive also.

If whoever sells you a rack would give you a letter standing behind the breakage of the lid then I would go ahead with whatever they say works.
Because Harley isn't going to stand good for it ! Now if Harley will give you that guarantee when they say the rack is for the '14's also (which they won't) then Harley might stand good for it. You might get that guarantee from a dealer that will stand behind HIS word, but Harley won't !
It has happened to a few on the forum. Just do a "tour pac" search & read.
The excuse they use most of the time is that you must have had too much weight on it, so you violated the limits. Go ahead & prove them wrong. It's your word against theirs............. Check with BinIdaho on this forum. Barbara is one that had that problem.....
My point is GET IT IN WRITING !!
What I say about the rack being the same, is the fact the lid is wider on the '14's. So the attaching points will be further away from the sides to use them for support. The 13's & down doesn't have as much support as they actually need, the '14's have less with the same rack.
Those that had the tether break, the dealer said they had too much weight on the rack when they threw the lid back being the reason anything broke. When the tether brakes it usually takes out the lid along with the box ! Without anything on the rack !!

I certainly don't like the new tether. They look really CHEAP to me. The mechanism that winds up the tether will be the first to go.

YEP, & that shoelace just doesn't look that strong either ! You could probably tow the trike with it, but sure looks cheap ! Also that lid sure goes a long ways over on the 2 wheelers. Don't know about the trikes.
I don't know why they can't make that retriever out of metal !

Based on what everyone has said .... would the Kuryakyn rack be a better choice for a 2014? It seems the mounting holes in the front are further apart and closer to the pak lid edges. Once drilled it would be the only rack to fit. I know both the airwing and premium H-D racks are supposed to use the same hole spacing.

Heed warnings.....DO NOT OVERLOAD (10# MAX). You will crack the lid and tour pak (very, very expensive)....ask me how I know.

DO NOT OVERLOAD.....will crack tour lid/tour pak. Tether broke on my '09 TG and cost me a fortune to replace/repair!!!

I plan on having a bag that would be easily removed BEFORE opening the lid.

Also plan to pack only lightweight clothing in that "dry bag".

I installed the Air Wing luggage rack close to 2 years ago. As they say, measure twice...drill once. ;)

I have used my T-Bags Horseshoe Bag on this rack for numerous trips. I generally keep the weight low...2 rainsuits and my trike cover...that's it. No issues with cracking the lid. Same thing I did on both Ultras I had before the Trike.
