I thought I would post the oil temps I was seeing on my ride from home here near Myrtle Beach SC out to the Wheels Through Time Museum in Maggie Valley NC and back.
I run a Oil Bud Oil cooler with the oil filter bypass unit that came with it and have my oil temp sensor reading the oil temp coming out of the cooler into the engine.
I also want to add that I carried 2 bags of tools ( 50lbs easy ) in my trunk and my carry rack with my portable scooter to wheel myself around the museum with ( 80-90 lbs ) ( Im a left leg amputee with many injuries from my hit n run ) plus my big butt......:wave4:
My route from home took me out to Florence SC then on to I20 to Columbia SC. From Columbia I took I26 to Ashville NC then on to I40 into Maggie Valley from there. Roughly 350 miles to Maggie Valley.
Left @ 6am air temp was in the low 70s, oil temp stayed right around 210 as best as I can figure with the HD oil temp gauge. Riding into the mountains from Spartensburg SC the air temp had risen into the low 80s, my oil temps rose to 220. Rode up the mountain on I26 and when I got to the top my oil temp has rose to around 235. After about minutes at grade and going down hill slightly my oil temps dropped back to 220 and stayed there until we arrived into Maggie Valley
The ride back to home I rode with my buddy from Maryland who was with me out I40 to the Winston Salem NC area and got off onto 311/ I74 where we parted ways and rode home through central NC on I73/I74 Rt 220 to Rockingham NC then back down Route 38 to home
We hit traffic on I40 that came to a stop due to a road closure for bridge work east bound. While in the stop and go traffic my oil temp rose to 250-255 with in a few minutes from the 220 range I was at when we were riding along @ 70mph.
I turned on my HD parade fan at that point and my oil temp didnt rise any higher while riding in the slow pace until we got back onto I40 to get back up to speed. The temps later in the day got into the mid 90s and my oil temp cruising at speed would be 230-240
A good tune ( Thanks again WIZ for the help with my tune ) a good oil cooler and a unrestricted exhaust can yield you a cooler running trike, even with a larger engine
