I was talking to a friend recently who had issues with his Harmon/Kardon radio. He said that his radio "froze" up and he ended up getting a "rebuild" radio from a Harley dealer for $400.00. A brand new one would've cost around $1000.00!!! The dealer he went to said that had he gotten the radio "updated", that wouldnt've happened....I guess if you go to your dealer and ask them to do this update, they will do it free at cost....Another "update" that no one ever hears about?? At least I haven't....Has anyone else heard about this??

Took my trike in for service. Going back home I could'nt get the radio to work. Turned around and went back. Dealer is 65 miles from home. They checked it out and said radio was no good. They took one out of a new bike and covered it under extended warranty. Dealer said they had been having a lot of problems with the radios. Haven't heard of getting your radio updated.

mine got replaced under ext. warrenty because it woyldnt work. i think it got wet. although i am very careful to put a towl on it when i wash the t/g. they had to order a new one & took 3 weeks.

Ouch, looks like the Harley Dealer saw you friend coming. He could have pulled the radio and sent it off to these folks Harley Davidson-Harman Kardon Advanced Audio Specialists-radio repair-IRON CROSS AUDIO who could have taken care of him for less.

Went through 5, yea 5 head units on my '06 ultra. Never paid for a penny for the fix, I had the ESP. Thank goodness. Now I'm riding an '01 ultra so I guess my worries are over. I know that there is a harness that you can get that will let you use a Soney head unit and your hand controls. I miss the CD player but I do have an I-pod jack so I still get my tunes.

My '10 TG had the radio replaced awhile ago. Speakers seemed to be failing after rain. Once new radio in, problem solved. I believe updates to radio and dash get downloaded and burned onto a CD that then gets placed in radio to update system. Wouldn't be suprised to learn that a dealer did that without testing (or admitting) for problems.

the tri glade units are prone to audio failure.the circuits boards or component crack or fail.radio replaced after a year with considerable messing around with HD.

I must be the lucky one or I'm doing something right. I've owned an 08 Ultra Classic, an 09 EGC. My wife had an 10 SG Trike and now a 2012 Triglide with almost 7K miles. None had any Radio problem's. If you look back in history, Harmon Kardon has always made pretty good equipment. I have never sprayed any water directly on the inside of the fairing. I always wet a cloth and wipe that area. I know some will say it get's wet when it rains. When you are riding in the rain, it get's wet but is not a force spraying at the dash area like a water hose or pressure washer..just saying!
