winter rebuilds

Not being ALL THAT mechanically inclined, especially with a bike that needs so much removed to get at "stuff" (and then put back in the right place with NO pieces left over) I am having a nearby shop (whom I trust) rebuild my carbs, slave cylinder, clutch, and replace the belts. He has given me an estimate of approx. $1500.00 including parts. What do you more experienced riders/wrenchers think? Does this sound like a good and fair deal to you. I think so. Oh, by the way, my ride is a 1986 GL1200 Aspencade with 94,000 miles on her. I'm thinking that, after this rebuild, I should be able to get many, many many more 1,000's of enjoyable miles from this bike. (I have been having some clutch problems lately, which is what prompted this work)

If your happy then the deal is fine. Repair prices very from location to location.

Thats not a bad price in my book if he keeps to his word. I know some years ago Honda over in Crystal lake was charging around $500.oo to take off rebuild and sync my old 86 Aspencades carbs. Whos doing the work,the Honda dealer over on North avenue there?
 
No, Mick, it's Racer Cafe in St. Charles. I tried since May to get the Honda dealer to rebuild my clutch, but by November nothing had happened so I went to R. Cafe. The Honda mechanic said the clutch plates were discontinued and he couldn't find all of them.I had thought about going out to Bob-Jo Honda in Sycamore, but, I know Eric at Racer Cafe, so I went with him.
 
Erics one of the good guys. Ive gotten a couple of front tires done by him and he seems to be one of those people that actually care about what they do. And he doesnt mind working on trikes like some other shops make an issue about.
 
And,...he remembers who you are when you walk in. There is a younger guy at the Honda shop on County Farm and North Ave. that seems to remember me, but the others...??? And you would think, with a somewhat unique trike like mine (it's older and has some odd parts on it) they would remember, but, nope. Maybe due to the volume of clients they have. Understandable, I guess.
