Anyone install an LED brake/running/turn signal light on the trunk?

I'm wanting to install an LED light were the reflector is below the trunk lock.

Anyone done this?

I found a few different styles I like the look of about 15-18" long.

I have not determined the best way to wire it, I'm thinking just run the wires up under the seat to the rear lighting plug & tie in there.

I'm open to suggestions/comments.

I was thinking about your post, Do you want to do this to get rid of the lights on the fenders? I'm not a big fan on the license plate location. I want to mount it on the bumper. Your putting different ideas in my head about what I want to do.

I use the LEDs from

customdynamics.com

my buddy sold his LED light company to them years ago and I have been following them and they seem to be holding the quality and products line to a high standards.

Welcome. No, I do not want to remove the OEM tail lights. I have a thread about converting them to LED & I have already done that. I am talking about, at a minimum, adding a LED running/brake light on the back of the trunk in that wasted real estate there to brighten things up & the lights I have looked at have turn signal functions also, so that's an option.

I had also looked at HD's LED strip that goes on the underside of the airwing luggage rack, but l thought the lights just look weak to me.

I make also add a brake light modulator after all this is done.

If you google the FW, I have seen Europe models that have a license plate bracket on the lower part of the trunk, that might be an option for you, but to me, they looked pretty bulky.

I like the idea of having more lights. I also seen the air wing brake light , and thought the same thing, Lets wait and see the ideas out there

Could you maybe post a pick of what you used & how you mounted/wired it please.

I like Custom Dunamics & used their inserts in my front turn signal/running lights.

Here are a a couple of pix of my leds.

I use strips under my gas tank for the orange

Strips under my floor boards for the purple.

I shaped the peace sign with strips for the back of the bears head. The bear is my main passengers.

I am showing the bear pix using a 9 volt batteries. hope to wire it this weekend

The strips stick really good.

Thanks for posting pics John.

I'm just looking for a light assembly to put on the back of the trunk below the lock.

No bears please. I would never be able to keep that with grandkids/Great grandkids.

Waiting!?!?

I will have it back next week. The guy that helped me build it took it to a bike show in Kingwood, TX today. About to head over there and will try to get a few pics while there. We had an issue with getting all 3 functions (brake, running and turns) going, but I found out that Radiantz makes an add-on circuit pigtail that should solve the problem. The lights are super bright.

Found the thread....

$33

Surface mount Red LED 6.5" long... Would likely work on the Freewheeler trunk as a replacement for the stock reflector assembly.. A rubber gasket could be employed to account for the curved rear surface or perhaps some well cut rubber fender welting?

Might work... much cheaper than the standard issue bagger vertical lights from places like Bad Dad etc.

I have a few LED's in mind. The ones I found were in the 12" range.

I was just curious what others had done, but apparently, not many had added a light in back.

Yes there are a number of great options with nice bezels and mounting hardware. I am looking too, only my motivation is a little different. I am putting wide tires on my trike and was thinking of using a long multi-functional LED light on the body vs fender locations for the brake etc. lights. The issue I kept running into was the curvature of the body. The nice 18" assemblies would not conform to the curve.

I will be interested in your final solution. Good luck.

Not good at this picture crap! Here is a pic of what should work for you! Brake Strobe LED Knight Riderz Light Bar

It's $29.95 it is 4.5"L x 0.7" W x 0.7" H

They have other types listed, I had a 7.5 in Knight Riderz light bar with the crazy dot moving back and forth for tail light and 4 strobe and then full on brake! One hole for wire and 3m stick it on in place of the reflect on the trunk!

Use a heat gun or good blow dryer and the stick on harley comes right off; may need a little goo gone for a clean job!

Check em out search knight riderz on their sight this one in pic used to come longer; i didn't see it!

Sorry no pic's trike is totaled and gone!

Dave

Sorry it took so long. I had to put the bike back in the shop to get some paint corrected. You can see the Radiantz LED bar in the recess of the trunk. It functions as running, brake and turns. It is plenty bright.

I like the fenders and the light relocation. Very nice installation. I will explore that option for my trike as well as I have a similar challenge with my fenders.

Did you have to do anything special with the electrics or was it a direct swap. Like I said in an earlier post, a lot of what is needed on the new bikes/trikes is new to me.

Was an electric load balancer needed? What approach did you take to tie in to the wire harness (i.e What's it look like inside the trunk?).

PS.... Do you have any details/pics of your fenders and the assembly process as they were going on. You took a very sanitary way of integrating/attaching them to the body. I'd like to learn more about how you did that

There is an extra circuit you have to buy from Radiantz that allows the running, brake, turn combo. We couldn't get the stock harness to function properly... so, did away with it and everything worked fine.

I read your post and decided I needed a center running/brake light. I decided on the Custom Dynamics LB03. It has a low for the running light and a hi flashing brake light. I was going to install it where the red reflector is under the trunk latch but decided I wanted it higher. I'm mounting it with a tee bracket on the seat screw. I found a brake light feed the 7A plug. I'm stuck for the moment because I can't get the pin blank out of the number 4 pin hole on 7B. If anyone can help me with that I would appreciate it. I don't want to force it and damage the plug.

Once I get the wire install into the plug I'll be able to finish it and add a picture.

Try a paper clip

We never bought the tool made by Thexton;)
