Recently purchased a "08" GL1800 with the Lehman/ Monarch II conversion. Did a good amount of cleaning, and some maintenance since purchase. I read here, at 24k u-joints should be checked/replaced. I did check and lube mine at the rear, but my question is, is there a front one also. Was not able to see one, and was wondering what was up front. Thanks for any advice!:)

The rear u-joint can be greased every 3K ... the front joint is part of the original GL1800 driveshaft. They do wear out from time to time but I have only replaced them due to abuse, not necessarily neglect.

If you keep the rear u-joint greased and notice no vibrations, the shaft should be good to go.

Thanks for the advice and illustration, will be keeping an eye on u-joint!!

If the shaft can be easily removed, the front u-joint should be inspected too. Like the rear, it should have absolutely no play in the joint. Often, since the front u-joint is smaller one of the 2, its the one that goes bad. Also, if your shaft has splined sleeve, clean, inspect, and lube it also.

Here's an example of one with to much movement.
