Was visiting with Al @ SeeThroughBraz the other day and something was mentioned about my trunk coming open during one of my rides. Since they, SeeThroughBraz, seem to come thru with a lot of new ideas for the trikes I ask about a trunk "Open" warning system. Guess his R&D bunch have been working on such a system but are still in the pencil and paper stages.

Anybody interested, like I am. in something like this, something to let you know if your trunk has popped open, ya might give them a shout. I'm going to keep bugging them until they get a prototype out.

I personally never had a problem, but I have heard MANY others who indeed have had issues.
The plastic lock “bezel” constantly breaks …and if you take a good look at the latching mechanism of the “stud” with the little bit of engagement of the little tab, that OEM lock, and especially the whole latch set up, is really a “5hitty” design!

I went with the “Iron head TriGlide trunk lock” system.
It’s an awesome design and I absolutely love it!!!

Here’s a video I did on the complete install, including testing to show all the features of this set up.
It’s actually a pretty straightforward install.

I had the most problems with my 14, it came open all the time, I replaced and adjusted the latch post and made sure I adjusted it to specs. Then from that day on I started to lightly push the door shut and lock it every time. Knock on wood but I’ve now got a 21 Tri glide and never have had it come open again. I did disassemble the current one and adjusted and tightened every fastener in the locking mechanism. It’s not the best system but for now it’s what I have. Harley could’ve designed something more simple that latches more solid in my opinion.

I learned early on with my 2016 TG to always "gently" push it closed and keep it lightly lubricated. I also use a permanent reusable wire tie to draw the two door support cables in together several inches. When I open my trunk I can only open it about 5 inches unless I release one side of the wire tie from a cable support. It really isn't much of an inconvenience plus I know if it ever comes open while I'm riding nothing will come out and be lost.
