V Rod Motor On Tri Glide

A long time dealer and i had this similar discussion about the V-Rod engine. His opinion was that it doesn't have enough low end torque to be suited for a heavy bike.

If EPA standards continue to tighten, the air cooled engine as we know it is dead. If H-D were to re-engineer the V-Rod engine's bore/stroke dimensions and change the cam timing,it would probably make a great platform for the heavier touring bikes and trikes.

Texan, Dawg and mhgoldwing are all right in their accounts of Harley and Lehman holding hands with the development of the Tri-Glide.

Lehman trikes went belly up then sold the business to Champion...

But the indisputable fact is that they Did close down. ie go out of business.

I stand by my story...
Show me something different, and Ill go with that

Lehman Trikes closing down?

Lehman Trikes of Spearfish, South Dakota, has “suspended operations and may not reopen” according to the Rapid City Journal.
A number of workers were laid off in November while an investment solution was sought, but president and chief executive officer Ken Hines has announced that the company has been “unable to complete the proposed sale”.
Hines states that attempts to achieve refinancing are ongoing, but that the company cannot continue to operate in the meantime and that “there is no assurance that the company will be able to secure the required funding to recommence operations”.
The company has suffered a series of blows, not least the recent death at 60 years of age of founder John K. Lehman in January.
In 2010, Lehman’s contract to build the Tri-Glide trike for Harley came to an end and, despite subsequent trike projects on an number of platforms (such as Victory, Honda, Suzuki) as well as Harley based trike builds, the decision to put the company up for sale in November last year may have come too late and cannot have been helped by the nature of the economic climate.

March 21, 2012
Lehman Trikes, Inc. has suspended operations, effective March 9. The company said in a press release that it has not been able to complete a sale that it was working on, however it is continuing to pursue capital for the company.
Without a sale, Lehman has not been able to continue operations at its Spearfish, S.D., facility. Operations have been suspended until further notice, and restarting the business depends on future capital through financing or another transaction, which cannot be guaranteed.
The company is suspending operations about two months after founder John Lehman passed away. The company reported in November that it was seeking a sale or a merger. To read that story, click here.

Lehman Trikes, U.S.A.

Today Champion Trikes, via its sister company Champion Investments, Inc., a South Dakota corporation, announced the resumption of Lehman Trikes, U.S.A. operations. Lehman Trikes, U.S.A. had suspended its operations in early March of this year while in search of a qualified investor after the passing of founder, John Lehman, in early January of this year.
John Lehman was known to many as the father of the modern trike. He created his first trike in 1985 so that his family could enjoy a safe and comfortable motorcycling experience together. He eventually partnered with longtime friend Larry Strilchuk in 1993 to form Lehman Trikes, U.S.A., and together they worked to create an industry leader in the three-wheeled motorcycle market. Lehman was inducted into the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum Hall of Fame in 2009 for his innovative advancements in the modern-day trike industry.
Craig L. Arrojo, CEO of Champion Investments Inc. and Champion Trikes, stated, “We are extremely proud and excited to announce the acquisition of Lehman Trikes U.S.A. and to have them join the Champion family of motorcycle-related companies. They are an exceptional organization, firmly grounded in high quality products and exceptional customer service. Their ISO 9001:2008 speaks to their commitment.” Continuing, Mr. Arrojo stated, “Lehman Trikes U.S.A. was a fundamentally sound company with a rich heritage. A combination of factors led to their cessation of operations. The early discontinuation of the Harley-Davidson services contract, along with a challenging economic environment and delays in new contracts, were all ingredients. Lehman and Champion Trikes, in team, will enrich both companies and improve our mutual performance.”
Champion Investments, Inc., doing business as (dba) Lehman Trikes U.S.A., operations will resume at the Spearfish, South Dakota, facilities. Financial resources are in place and the first order of business will be providing service parts with a phased-in return to full operations as vendors and personnel staffing are reestablished.
