Does anyone have any experience with the Micro Start PPS? We're planning a ride to Alaska and was thinking about one for emergency use. Thanks much.

I haven't used the Micro Start, but here's (click) a similar one rated at 10,000 mAh at a good price. I use it for other purposes , but have no doubt it will perform as they claim. Click on "description" and "more info" to get the "scoop".

I have NO connection with these folks - just thought it was a good deal and it has worked for me...

I have used my PPS extensively for the last couple of years. Works great. I carry it with me on my road trips. I've never had to use it on my own TG while on a road trip, but have helped out more than a few other folks. ThumbUp

We each have a Whistler Jump & Go in our cars, we usually took one on the trike for trips. Some Walmarts have them for about $60, but the way WallyWorld marketing is, a Stanley version is seeming to come in and the Jump and go is getting harder to find there. Much less expensive on line than the MSRP on the Whistler site:

For the motorcycles, we got a more compact version, the Whistler Safe Start Mini:

It is about the size of 2 Galaxy S5 smartphones stacked on top of each other. Great for starting bikes, smaller cars (4 & 6 cylinder), garden tractors and such.

Now this is timely. Was talking to some of my buddies this morning about my Micro Start PPS that I picked up in Sturgis a couple years ago. Discussion was around how something so small could carry that much starting power. Yesterday was at our local biker hang when a fellow walked back in and wanted to know if anybody had some jumper cables. Thinking I was on my trike and cables are in the truck I said no. Then thought "wait a minute" I have something that might do the trick before remembering I hadn't charged in since Sturgis this year. Got it out of the trunk of the trike and low and behold cranked that Ram diesel right over much more to my surprise than his I think.

Just a sidebar. Got home and thinking ya know I ought to run this thing all the way down and do a complete deep recharge. So around 7:00 last night turned on the flashlight on the unit.....went to bed around 11:00....still burning strong. Got up at 6:00 to head into work and it was still burning but getting dim, left it on when I left.

Nearly 12 hrs. now that's lasting power from a charge 6 months ago. Sure hope it comes back to life when I start charging it tonight.....

Sam's club has a version of this same unit.

Apparently totally discharging a Lithium battery isn't a great idea, with certain exceptions. Also storing it a full charge is not the best for it, and keeping it in a hot place like in a trunk in the sun. So on a jump starter the things that are not good for Lithium batteries are exactly the way they are to be Kept and used - usually stored in a warm trunk, fully charged.
