Thoughts on '13 radio issues

Recently I've started having an issue with the radio sound shutting off. The sound will come back on it 4-5 minutes. But found out if I switch the CB/Headset/speaker switch on the lower inner fairing I get the radio right back. I have made sure the Comm option was turned off so eliminating CB/intercom interference.

Also putting a strain on the electrical system, i.a. starting or putting the TriGlide in reverse will also kill the sound.

Stop in at the dealership yesterday. I'm thinking possibly its a switch issue. The service writer said he'd seen it before and it was a radio issue. AND guess who's warranty ran out in June. New HK radio is $900, refurbished is $480.
And no, I'm not really interested in an off brand replacement.

Thoughts ??

ideas ??

I had the same issue just weeks ago with my 2007 radio. I could switch it back on after it cut out and thought the switch was going bad. The dealership had a used "takeout" radio they gave me which cured the problem. It wasn't the switch after all.

Can anybody speak to Iron Cross' service??

I found a '13 HK takeout radio over the weekend. The owner said they'd removed it to put in an upgraded radio/sound system after 3000 miles and was working great when it was pulled by the stereo service people. Not saying I did but might have bought somebody else's problems.

Seeing Iron Cross' service order form where they offer an "Upgrade and Modify" option, was thinking about sending both, my broken unit and the unit I just bought to Iron Cross. Heck I rode for 50+ years without a radio. Think I can live for a couple months without one now.....and winter is coming in a month or so anyway.

I thought about a backup radio when I had the Triglide..But if you can live without the radio I would just take out your send it in have it repaired.. I think the modify relates to colored lights and Ipod connection

Talked to Iron Cross yesterday and have decided to send both radios in for them to put under the microscope. From what I could gather he indicated some of the HK units have a power supply issue. Didn't get into the modification and upgrade services, course not interested in lights and/or iPod connections, although an external USB input port would be nice. Have a lot (1200+) of CW tunes on a thumb drive.

One thing that did catch my attention was ask if I throttled up my trike or turn off my radio when utilizing reverse. Said the reverse motor puts a tremendous pull on the electrical components of the trike.

Might have an extra modified/upgraded HK radio to list on the site before long..
