Dumb helmet questions

This is the first summer I have a trike. So far with this heat and humidity I am finding the FF helmet very hot, too hot in fact. With the full fairing I don't get as much breeze on my head so air flow is minimal.

As much as I hate to think about getting a half helmet I think I am going to buy one.

What I need are suggestions as to what the rest of you all wear so I can narrow my searches. Is wind in the ears a problem with half helmets? You can't have a headset with a half helmet can you that will restrict talking on the trike.

What about air flow inside the helmet?

Is black the only color they sell?

I may as well ride naked I know that is how I am going to feel.

The wife and I wear half helmets and I have speakers and mic on mine. Wife doesn't like to listen to "my music" so she chose to not have speakers in hers. Works well for me but they still get hot.

I wear a 3/4 [Pumpkin head] helmet with a shield and a pop -up tinted shield in the summer ' In the winter I use a full helmet with a tinted pop-up shield also.. When I ride my Gunner on the highway it's full helmet all the time.. My Gunner doesn't have any wind protection like the T/G so the wind noise would be unbearable with a 3/4..

The wife and I both have the Harley "98334-09VM" hybrid 1/2 helmet and like them a lot, yep, they're gloss black but our dealership had them with silver flames, flat black, and something else I can't remember. They are very lightweight and have 2 vent holes that can be opened or closed in the front for some ventilation. A universal shield will fit under the visor but is fixed.

Take a look at the Bell Pit Boss. Has an rear control knob head adjuster and a drop down Sunscreen. Also has zip on / off ear flaps for winter / summer.

Half helmets are great. Get the kind with the zip out attachment over the ears which you will love in the Winter. Also, several great brands out there that are much more comfortable than the Harley ones. Besides, Harley accessories are so over priced, but that is no secret.

Only suggestion I have is to consider a half helmet with a drop down visor. Yes you can add a head set to it.
Fairing bikes I use nothing but half helmets, windshield bikes modular helment. The wind noise is just too much for me now. For a rather quiet modular helmet I would consider a Nolan N104 modular. Just got one from suggestions here. Great helmet, took care of all that wind noise and loud pipes on my wife's wide glide.

Since you have been wearing a full face helmet, I suggest that you look at the compromise style between full face and half helmet - modular. That Nolan mentioned above is a great item, but like anything else you can find them in all price levels, colors, features. My wife and I wear modulars when we travel and our communications systems work wonderfully with the helmet in either the closed or open position.

I have an additional question. Because my helmets come out of the watermelon patch(3XL), I've tried a 1/2 helmet, xxl(xxxl hard to find), with and without a drop down shield. I've noticed that the drop down shield one is smaller than the regular 1/2 helmet. Of course, they are too small either way.

Anybody know of any online shops that sell TRUE XXXL half helmets, with drop down sun shields, that don't cost an arm and a leg to keep shipping back due to not fitting?

Thanks.

Agreed! Best helmet I've ever owned! The tinted faceshield is not too dark and drops down and closes with ease.(Unlike some other cheaper brands I've tried) I have a Sena blue-tooth headset specifically for half helmets in it. It's not heavy and the control wheel head adjuster is great. Highly recommended!

I have a Shoei Cruiser helmet that I sometimes wear earplugs with. I also have a headset that can be worn with the half helmet or without a helmet.

Just bought HJC modular helmets but have only worn once. Will be breaking them in Next week on my Nova Scotia trip.

The pit boss looks like a good helmet. I am going Wednesday to look again at helmets I will put it on my list to try on. more later.

air noise

try ear plugs to block the wind and little of the sound. there are a lot of different one sound level , still, soft or harder ,some are even have a little shaft you us to put in your ear easier.

Is it a true Carbon fiber helmet? Some of them say "looks like" but are a polycarbonate injected.

I had actually been looking at this helmet online the other day. It might be the one I get. I found I could wear a size smaller in half helmet than I do in FF, Not sure why they just seem to fit better.

Just received mine and its a great helmet. If you do the measurements as stated in the advertisement, it fits like a glove.
