Trents New Trailer

I have a nice two place, enclosed, tandem axle trailer. Trouble is, the aluminum "siding" is faded and has old decals that have been baked on and can no longer be removed. Has anyone had their aluminum replaced on their trailer? And if so, where did you have it done?

I have a Featherlite all aluminum "V" nose single axle trailer for my trike. I tow it behind my motorcoach and with the tongue being so short I can't back it. I have a hand dolly that I can move it around with and put it on the campsite where I want. If it were a tandem I could not use the dolly. This setup has worked real well for me.

Very similar to my trailer which is also for sale.

This one is ours. Hauls both trikes with some room to spare, 8 x 16'. One of the best buys I ever made. 5k, only 6 mos old when I bought it, used ONCE by previous owner.

Trent ask me to post some pictures of his new trailer he had made to haul trike.

Question: Do you have a v8 motor in your Explorer? and what kind of gas mileage are you getting pulling the trailer w/trike? just my curiousty.:Coffee::xzqxz:

That 2013 Explorer had a V6, 265 hp I think? and was rated to tow 5,000 lbs. With the TG on board, the trailer weighed 3,300 lbs, so it was well below the rating. It pulled it just fine on the flats, but not so well in the hills and mountains. Once going west over the Blue Mountains in Oregon with a head wind, I had it down to 6 mpg according to the immediate milage display. On the flats it only got 10 to 12. But I never was gentle with it because I don't care what milage I get from my vehicles, just how they perform. But I was not happy with the lack of power so that Explorer is no longer with us. It got traded in on a 2014 ML350 Mercedes that my Wife loves. It has 310 hp and is also rated to haul 5,000 lbs so it would perform better towing than the Explorer did.

I now have a 2014 F-150 with the Ecoboost V6, 365 hp, rated to tow 11,500 lbs. Now, the question becomes "What trailer? Oh! the one following me!" Cannot even tell it is there, flatland or mountains. And it is the same color as the trailer, which I had painted to match the Explorer. I have been a Ford guy my whole life with Pickups, Bronco's, Excursions, Mustangs, Explorers, and Edge's. This F-150 is the best truck I have ever had, followed by my 2000 Excursion with a 7.3 Diesel in it. I would sure rather be way overpowered for my towing needs than slightly underpowered.

thanks for the info. you answered "several" questions I was wondering about. I am a retired Ford worker and I know now that the v6 turbo F150 will be my next vehicle.

Since you are a retired Ford Worker, I want to thank you for your service! You should be proud for helping manufacture such great products.

I do not have a single negative thing to say about my F-150. Tows the trailer like it weighs nothing. Smooth and fast. A pleasure to drive.
I have a son in law with a 2013 F-150 with the V-8... Puts out 10 less HP than the V-6 Ecoboost. We did a couple of drags on a back road and I out ran him every time. We even traded trucks and then he beat me too. He was not happy cuz he figured his V-8 would smoke me. He is going to trade his in on a new V-6 next year.

Hindsight is always perfect. I wish I had bought an 8.5' wide instead of the 7' wide. Not that I don't like my trailer, but experience is a great teacher.

I've been told the turbo v6 runs hotter than a firecracker under the hood when being worked in the summer time. I was also told it runs so hot there is a fair amount of heat shielding under the hood, I know someone who has one. IMO I like a big dumb V8 when it comes to pulling, the 5.7 V8 in my 2014 Tundra is a pulling fool.

Yeah... A crappy Ford. It is interesting how Idaho is Ford country. Pull up to an intersection, there can be 10 trucks sitting there. 7 of them will be Fords. 5 of those will be F-150's. 2 will be F-350's. 2 will be Dodge's.. 1 might be a gm product {gubmint motors are not very well liked here}. There are 3 huge Ford dealers within 10 miles of each other. The one down the street where I bought mine has 148 new F-150's on their lot. Dunno how many used ones they have. You can get a smokin' deal on a decked out 2014 right now, but the 2015's don't stay on the lot longer than 4 days. {I have a Buddy who works there}. I do see quite a few Tundra's though, ... maybe more of them than gm's!!!! ;)

But out here in the wild wild West, the Blue Oval is the King! {As in Ranch!} And Platinum..

The Tundra is a pretty decent truck, I've had Chevy. Switched to Toyota a couple years ago and was impressed at the quality, not to mention the resale value is killer.
