Re: Post Your VW Trike Pictures HERE

Nice, Gravy. Fun to see you and your trike!!!! And if it were me on it, the ride in the snow would have been the length of the driveway! LOL.

Re: Post Your VW Trike Pictures HERE

WOW! That is awesome, subeetrikerdon! And I love that your dog is with you (I assume he actually does ride with you????)

Re: Post Your VW Trike Pictures HERE

hay subeetrikerdon, did you do the engineering on the forks? That looks like it will work well on the bumps.

Actually I found a couple of sites that showed how they made their leading link forks and I, for the most part, copied what they did, however, I did make some changes on how the shocks mount and a cross piece at the lower end by the front fender.
I have had some machinists, etc., look at it and said I couldn't have done it better.
It is almost like power steering and has a shorter turning radius than by Chev. S10. I can do a U turn on a side street.
It just rides over stuff in the road.

Yes, she rides with me in the "dog carrier" behind my seat, however, being a young puppy and not having much riding experience she is a little nervous about it all, but she will learn to love it.
She already gets excited when she hears or sees other bikers and trikers on the road.

Re: Post Your VW Trike Pictures HERE

What Subaru motor is that? And what is a 76 type 2rear end . I had the Subaru Spot Sedan with the Turbo and a 5 speed . I wish I junked the car and kept the motor and tranny now that I see what I could have used it for .Sold the whole thing for $800.00. i would love to see it during the build. Have any pictures of the construction?

I used ideas from some others who have made them then put in my 2 cents worth.. beefed them up a little and re designed the shock mounts. And yes it works great, short turning radius, almost like having power steering and rides right over the blocks on parking spaces if your not careful. :D

Re: Post Your VW Trike Pictures HERE

Ray you keep me surprised with all the new ideas you come up with. I glad i got invite to visit your shop and see some great trikes up close.

Re: Post Your VW Trike Pictures HERE

According to Rewaco, you can only use a TC88b motor (b is balanced). Anything else tears up the VW transaxle bearings. They had many failures when they first started doing this. I suppose if you had an S&S motor balanced and blueprinted it might work, but the HD 88b motor has counterweights on the crank.

Re: Post Your VW Trike Pictures HERE

will post pics when they,re up and running

Can't wait to see them. I'm thinking about possibly using LED light bars (dual intensity) on the rods between the star plates when I do the Frankenstein. Want to light up the rear as much as possible, and no fenders.

Re: Post Your VW Trike Pictures HERE

Loner - what ever happened with that body? There was a guy building trikes in Florida years ago (don't remember the name) that was using a rear section very similar to that one.

Re: Post Your VW Trike Pictures HERE

I ran across this shot of one of my early VW trikes (the one on the right). Silver metalflake base with candy blue and tangerine graphics. Built it when the dollar numbers were lower; $200 to chrome all the engine tins, pepdals, etc., under $200 for a new springer - but the bucks were just as hard to come by. A reworked (carefully) propane bottle for a gas tank. Four-speed and reverse in the center of the upper frame (see the T-handle). Thirty-eight (yep, 38) coats of paint dried and sanded between each coat (clearcoat wasn't a thick smooth epoxy like now). This one was completed in 1972 (or '73)

Re: Post Your VW Trike Pictures HERE

Hay Loner this is Loner how you doing. Just got asked if I posted here on another site. I told him that he should know better. I would not have one of those pieces of junk, I ride a motor cycle base trike. JOKE!JOKE!JOKE!!!! Those are some sweet looking machines and I do like them all so no flamming. I post on this site but dont get over here very often. I ride Honda Valks , have two of them that I built and know whats involved in building something that you enjoy and love.
By the way how did you get your handle? I got mine back in 73 when I was the only white boy who rode with a black mc club. Had a 69 750 Honda sport.

Re: Post Your VW Trike Pictures HERE

Our era is the same - I rode to Bike Week (Daytona) each year from Tennessee beginning in [about] 1970. When I met up with some friends in South Georgia to ride on in (remember the 'Run to the Sun'?), I got introduced by one of them as a 'loner' and the name sort of stuck. I tried a few times riding down with friends, but it seemed one always wanted to go 85-90 mph, another wanted to stop every two miles, etc., etc., so I just always eased out of the pack and rode alone at my own pace.

Not that I'm against riding buddies, but I've always just rode when I wanted, where I wanted, and however fast or slow I wanted. I guess the name probably fits. I have the same handle at our other trike site as well.

Can definitely identify with that. My group (more than 1) riding days are behind me. Like my own pace - which is not consistent, but rarely over the speed limit.

Re: Post Your VW Trike Pictures HERE

Danny,
that is the start of a nice looking trike, you going to have a glass body on it or custom made?

It was designed for a glass body but i have decided to go my own metal route the metal box behind the tank is the seat base and the sides that will be it for the bodywork other than the tank and mud guards (fenders) I'm trying to leave as much open as possible it is also being built on a tight budget so minimilistic helps

Re: Post Your VW Trike Pictures HERE

Loner
i couldnt agree more. I even hated riding with my husband when we were married. I much more enjoy riding in the freedom of gods great outdoors by myself. Lol
