So I was sitting down with a few buddy;s and of course talking Harley's. Then the subject of dealerships came up and where were the closest ones were. Then we started thinking what state had the most dealerships. Well in our beer fueled conversation. We came up with this. Calif is # 1. with 55 Then TEXAS with 48, Fla with 45 Penn with 42 Ohio with 41, NYC 36 , Wis with 31. Those are the top 7. Just in case you were wondering. :D

And each and every one in NY (almost) acts like they are the only show in town. It IS enough to drive you to drink.

Crazy as it sounds they know what they're doing..[HD] They are marketing wizard's..If they ran the US Treasury' the government would be running a surplus..

Just my thoughts for a rainy afternoon...

They certainly do know how to mint money. They ordered brake calipers on Tues for warranty replacement. Forget the fact of why they don't stock a 4 year old part. As of Sat, parts still not in. I asked them where they get shipped from that is takes so long. HD service counter guy couldn't tell me. The sad part is I actually believe he is that oblivious to not have a clue.

I usually figure 7 to 10 days when I order a part from the factory. They get closer to the 7 days then the 10. You figure the thousands of parts ordered per day it takes a couple of days to process the order then 2 to 3 days for UPS ground shipping. Throw a weekend in there and you have your 7 days. Unless a dealer is very rich they can't stock every part for every bike. I bet you will have your part by Monday. What happened to the caliper that they had to order new ones?

They are a marketing machine. Look at when they introduced the Streetglide, what company can take a touring bike, removed the tour-pak, remove the passing lamps, put a thinner seat on and a couple filler pieces and charge more money than the bike with all the stuff they removed.

Guys were snapping up the Streetglide which is nothing more than the $1,000 cheaper Electraglide Classic with the Tour-pak and passing lamps removed. Only a marketing genius would think of that trick.

Yep, i had a brain f**t back in 11 & bought a new streetglide.I sold it to lady for 1600. more then i had in it. It had 500 miles on it when we made the deal & 750 on it when she took ownership. Then i bought my first triglide. Much more better!

well i had a win with my local stealership.. they had a 3rd birthday party, and i got to eat a piece of HD cake for free.. this is quite amazing because any other trip there or to any other, always costs money.. its a rare day to get something for nothing from HD.
PS it was gooood cake too

We have a local dealer here that on every Sat the have Grilled Hot Dogs and a bottle of water for FREE. Oh, and the label on the bottled water says Harley Davidson. Sometimes they have a local band play for a few hours. A lot of benches and chairs to sit in with a large parking lot. It's a cool place to meet and hang out.

If they sell a few t hirts they will cover the costs of doing that. Way back when dealers where I am used to do that on weekends and then stopped. Now they have started it up again in an effort to get bikers to stop by.

Bozo, you missed the good old days with W.Babylon H-D.
I bought my first completely new HD from the W. Babylon location. A '91 883. First year of 5-speed. Tranny gears replaced due to unofficial defect in design. Frame cracked twice and engine rebuilt, all under warranty. I put 64k on that bike. Didn't buy another new one again until '04.

And, Gorilla, to answer your question. They were replacing front brake pads and noticed one caliper was binding. Put in warranty for both of them.

Speaking of the good old days. My 1st brand New Harley was a 1988 Dresser. I bought it soon after Daytona in March of 88. Wife & I took our 1st ride on a Dresser at the Harley Demo Rides. As we were leaving the ride area on the New Demo. She leaned over to talk to me and said. If you want to get one of these when we get home you should. HOLY Toledo I was looking for a phone booth to call a dealer back home......But I had to wait till we got back to the Motel we were staying at. NEW dresser out the door $ 10,350 . Picked it up a week after we got home. Best move I made that year;)

Well the best I can tell is Nebraska has 8.

Welp, the dealership did it right by me this time. Replaced both front brake calipers and all pads under extended warranty. Also found Compensator bad once again (I thought it was another issue). All told, warranty took care of over $900 of work and parts.
Of course, communication with service desk was always from my end asking questions.
