OK, I finally tracked down some pictures and info on the saddlebag mounting.
First let me say I'm still suspicious of this type of mounting system. I will never trust tape over stud mounting. I was on an old (2012)TrikeTalk post about this product. I can understand why you need to cover almost the whole area with velcro(8" x 12" +or-) to help spread out the holding power, but it looks awful - worse then the leather bra. IMO
Is that all you get for $78 is some velcro and wax remover? or did I read that wrong - probably did.
Every experience I've had with tape was negitive so that's why I question this system. I do not want to trust some expensive items, like a camera etc, to tape. I know the stud system is bulletproof. I've had some luck with velcro tape holding my mike, but in the heat and the pulling force the tape eventually gave way and pulled away from the surface very easily. The velcro did it's job, but not the tape. Just my own personal experiences.
I still don't know how you can get all that holding power and still be able to remove the velcro without damaging the paint.
I just bought some extra heavy duty 3M double back automotive tape and will give it a try. I'm not going to hold my breath especially when I see trim on cars peeling off here and there.
I know tape technology is improving greatly, but it's still tape and I would never feel comfortable holding anything of value. That's just me.
Good luck to you and hope you do well with this idea. Maybe you can teach an old dog new tricks. Nothing's impossible. ThumbUp
I wonder how many TG owners have tried this method of fastening the saddle bags on & what they think of it???
I like the idea because you could remove them with no sign of them when you trade & use them again on another TG.
