Yamaha Trikes

Boy, I'da been ticked off if I'd gotten the wrong parts for my conversion. Think ya got everything & all itchin' for a ride, then it doesn't go together right?? GRRRrrrrrr!!!!

It's Done. Will get some picture tomorrow. Might have to go with the rake kit. Little hard to steer. Front end jumps a little, not sure if that is normal?

RAKE IT!!!!! It will make night and day difference for you :D

Good looking trike!! Black is faster you know.Give yourself about 400 miles on her and the steering will be easier. Takes that long to get used to steering and not leaning.Enjoy! Ken

Help

As you know, I install the Champion trike kit to my Road Star. Have a few questions.

1. What is the right front tire Air pressure?

2. I did not put on the EZ-Steering kit. The Front end wobbles and weaves. Is that normal without the EZ-Steer kit? (I did ordered one Friday)

3. Now with kit on, shifting gears are hard and loud. Any ideas why?

Thanks

I run the same pressure in the front tire as when it was on two wheels. You need to tighten the pre-load on the neck bearing to alleviate some of the "weave and wobble" but I suspect a lot of it is simply getting accustomed to steering the trike. For the first couple hundred miles, your brain still wants to countersteer like a two wheeler and it takes a little time to adapt to actually steering the trike. Don't know why the shifting has become hard as adding the kit should not have any effect on the transmission or linkage?? Someone here can give you more info on adjusting the "fall away" or preload on the neck bearing but you will eventually want to rake the front end.......makes all the difference in the world....just like power steering!!!

My only thinking on the shifting is the added drag of the added tire. Try changing the trans lube to a synthetic. It smooth it out.

i could be mistaken but i think the stock r* has a cush drive if the conversion doesnt use it there will be a big difference in the sound and ease of shifting..

dont get carried away tightening the headset bearings it is a "BAD BANDAID"
anything much over snug may result in premature failure... dont ask how i know

once you put the raked trees on most all of the wobble will be gone.... if you NEED a damper put one on but dont send a boy to do a mans job (bearing to do the job of a damper)

my 2 cents

I noticed that you had your kit installed with a Roadhouse exhaust. I have a road star soon to be trike, and champion told me that the kit was designed around stock pipes and that the kit would not work with aftermarket pipes. Did you have any trouble with the install exhaust wise, or need any special parts?

Had a few small problem putting on the roadhouse pipes on.

a. Only using the right side. So only running two in to one now.

b. Had to modify the bracket on the pipe so I can mount it.

c. Had to cut out a very small piece of the body so it won't hit the pipes.

I will take some pictures tomorrow for you.

Sounds good and looks good. I'm happy.

thanks john95632, I currently have my passenger floorboards flipped and my wife really likes it this way. If i had to put the stock exhaust back on to trike it my passenger wouldnt be as happy.

I have a Hannigan kit that will be here Sat morning for my 2001 RSV :) but it will be a couple of weeks before I can start on it though, I have others to get out before I can do mine,,,,,,,:(

I have had some set backs, but it is slowly coming along.

Finished sort of needs paint.

I have a 2006 Royal Star Tour Delux with a Hannigan Conversion. I have Road King pipes on it. I have had it converted Jan 09. It placed 2nd in the Star Days bike show in Billings MT last year. We rode it through yellowstone last summer and over Beartooth Pass. Great place to ride a trike.

RV...not much to contribute, as I'm waiting for my '08 Roadstar Motor Trike Conversion to be done. Should be this Fri or Next...I love all the info and feedback I've been getting on here and am looking forward to meeting some of the Locals (NY, PA & NJ) at some Rides/Events. Gonna try to work in Delmarva Bike Week in Sept. Being a EFI Star I'm anxious to see how she performs with the Cobra Exhaust and LA Choppers Big Air Intake. Also, this'll be the 1st Bike I've installed an Alarm Systen on (Scorpio i600). I'm currently searching Graphics to pic something for the Large Trunk Lid on the Motor Trike Kit. Will post pics and add info as time goes by.
Doc, I got the trailer from a co. called Stringer Folding Trailers. They are in the Bay Area in Calif. near Berkley. They make them for 2 wheels and only weigh 150 lbs. The trike trailer weighs a lot more but works very well.I lucked out and the guy had one that was used only once and gave me a price I couldn't pass up. Ken

I like it!! Very nice

Nana likes it because it's her favorite color. But it really does look GREAT.

I almost thought it looked good with the back end black. I would have rode it all summer and had it painted in the FALL. Can't see wastin the nice summer days . Wow why did I think it was RED? I didn't notice I was on page 1 when I posted . What a shock to go see my post after you painted it YELLOW. I LIKE IT
