I'm sure this has been discussed before, but what is the best windshield that cuts down on the wind and buffeting for both the rider and passenger ?

Look for a design with the "flip" at the top. This pushes the air higher and let's you get away with a shorter windshield that performs like a taller one. The best windshields I've seen offered for the Harley touring bikes come from Freedom Shields.
I am 6 feet tall and prefer to look over my windshield rather than through it. I found the 9-inch height to be perfect for me.

For ME, when I found these windshields, Clark Custom Shields, a few years ago I haven't riden anything else since. I love the wider feature that help force wind from the front more out and around you and passenger.

Custom FLHT Windshields

As most know, the 'buffeting' wind is usually attributed to more negative air pressure and is sourced from below the fairing. That is better addressed when products like what Dennis offers at Tglidestuff.

Just my opinion.

I use Clarks custom windshield. 12'' Half moon wide with light tint. NO buffeting for the two of us. Quality shield and priced right.ThumbUp

+1 on the Clark's Customs. Great price, will ship very fast. Great folks to work with. And the darn thing works perfect. This is a 13" flat top with lite bronze tint.

Well, that would probably be the windshield on a car. No wind in the face, no buffeting, no bugs. This trike is only the second of MANY Harleys I've ridden that had a windshield. Took off the stock windshield and put on a 4" shorty. Looks great, doesn't do a darn thing about the wind.

Made a huge mistake and rode my new Triumph Rocket III without a windshield and got a BAD case of tendinitis in the right elbow. Possibly from having to hold on with a kung fu grip for dear life. So no more tuff guy for me. It's also nice not having honey bees hitting me in the nose.

Hey Bobs... I just ordered a new windshield exactly like yours..I like that bronze tint color..Looks really good on your Big Blue!! Hope it looks as good on Cool Blue.

Trent, it will! I originally picked the bronze for the red TG, but definitely happy with it on big blue! I find it very functional versus some of the darker smoked tints.

I went with a 8" Fast Aire "Areo" Dark Grey, made in the USA:

It does an excellent job of blocking the wind but still allows some into the cockpit (my main requirements for summer riding). Helped me avoid a direct hit from a massive bug and blows smaller ones up and over our heads. I think the dark smoke goes well with the dark merlot paint. It hides the windshield bag from the front and is easy to see over (I'm 5'-9") and through at night, no issues at all.

But the best attribute is the fact that it is made of polycarbonate. It might scratch easier than lexan but it's stronger than lexan, and to me that's more important. Ask any pilot. And where I live, bats love to dive down to scoop up bugs at night in your headlight beam.

I believe a 9" would have blocked more wind but again, I wanted some to come in. Check em' out:

And in the winter I can always put the stock one on and buy deflectors from Dennis Swan at: tGLIDE Stuff.com

Just got off the phone with Robin at Clark's Custom. Ordered the 12" Half Moon with bronze tint. said she will ship it tomorrow and I should have it by Saturday at the latest. Good friendly folks to do business with.

Clark is also what I run. Some may call it a "car" windshield as it is the tallest they make. I love the thing about no bugs and rain and this fills the bill for me. I am not into styling on my trike, we bought it to tour on and to do it with as much comfort as possible.
And Clarks was great to deal with, big points in my little world.

Just got my new Clark in the mail today..That was fast!! Nice people. Gonna go out in the Man Area and install it right now.

Installed the new Clark. Fits perfect, looks really nice, the bronze tint works really well with the Cool Blue and Black. It is 1" taller than the stock windshield. Will try it out when it stops snowing here. Hopefully this weekend. Bobs,,I have given up trying to post photos on here. I just cannot get it to work. If you will send me a pm with your email, I will happily send you some photos!...

Went over there. Nice! And that windshield is schmokin' :10:

Enjoy a buffeting free and bugs in the teeth free ride ;)

Received the Clark Windshield today as promised. Took longer to unpack it than it did to install!! Great fit and looks great too. Can't try it out yet....gonna rain and storm all day and most of the night. Looks like some bad mojo headed this way!!

Did you get the bronze tint?

Went for a 100 mile spin today to try out the new Clark Windshield. Ohhh yeah...works great..between the new windshield and Dennis's wind deflectors, the only wind hittin' me now is the very top of my big round head!,,,Which I don't feel when I am wearing my helmet. Temp supposed to hit 60 here in Idaho tomorrow, so a few of us are hittin' the road for most the day.. See ya monday!! Oh!..And thanx Bobs for motivating me to get the Clark!

I enstalled my Freedom windshield and it dose great!!! Nice heavy duty and scratch resistant! got the 9 inch and smoke windshield! Deflects the wind just fin and I can see over the top!!

I'll have to give a +1 to all the positive comments on the Clark windshield. I ordered mine last Thursday and it came today. I put it on and rode about 20 miles in 50 Degree temps, nice real nice. Good product and can't beat the service and the friendly people on the other end of the line. I got the 11 inch Half Moon with light gray tint and the Inside Windshield Protector.
