I have a 2022 Tri-Glide I installed a 12 inch Freedom Shields Touring windshield and the DK wings to lesson the buffeting

which both helped some but I still have a lot of head buffeting over 55 mph more with a helmet less without

With the 12 inch shield if I sit up straight I am looking over the windshield and if I slouch I look thru it

Is a taller windshield going to help much more ?

The money for another taller windshield isnt an issue I just dont want to spend the money if its not going to help.

Looking thru the windshield doesnt bother me so thats not a issue.

My previous trike was a 2005 Goldwing which had more or less 0 buffeting

Sometimes it’s not the height of the windshield it’s the helmet… With my modular helmet at extreme highway speeds I get very little buffering with my three-quarter with a face shield I have some Buffering ‘ But with my half helmet anything over 50 is head shaking..

Bill-I experienced similar issues as you , and I use a Freedom Shield 10” and DK wings.

What really helped me a great deal was adding JES Fork Fangs.

Buffeting pretty much gone.

I summarized my findings in this thread; https://www.triketalk.com/forum/thr...-Jugs-Cool-Master-and-Harley-CoolFlow-Install

This was written after 1500 miles, I’m approaching 10k now.

I’ve had zero issues with added heat due to adding the fangs using both fan systems in my post. I also added a stage 2 kit as well, and my Tri Glide runs even cooler than stock.

I do agree also with the buffeting varies with helmet selection comments. No helmet, no issue. Full face modular, no issue. Half helmet (Harley) noticeable buffeting , I purchased a “ no mushroom head” low profile DOT helmet for states requiring helmets, noticeable reduction in buffeting.

I’m very happy with my mods and the ride I now enjoy.

I have the fork fangs, but i use the baker built airwings. Much better than the other wings i have tried. Plus they are adjustable for air if you wish to direct some on you. Lil pricey, but worth it.

What brand and model is your low profile helmet?

Funny how some helmets will work differently for some people, I use that helmet but only for local rides, At speeds over 50 mph the shaking for me is unbearable..But like i say for local rides it is light and perfect....Also i call it my safe helmet to leave it on the Trikes seat when parked ....No one will bother to steal it like they would a full face helmet if you left it out in the open the trike..

I have the same issue with a beanie style helmet its useless over about 50 mph

My Shoei full face isnt near as bad but still a lot more buffeting than I care for.

I will be installing a pair of fork fangs soon and probably a taller windshield also. I just have to decide on which brands

if that doesnt solve it then the Tri-Glide

will be going down the road with a different rider

I can almost guarantee you that the Fork Fangs and windshield like the Freedom Shield Recurve extra wide will do the trick.

It most certainly did for me and I had the exact same concerns. I’ve put on nearly 10k this year and 9k since I added the fans, Fork Fangs (windshield I added at 50 Miles) and I really don’t even think about buffeting any longer, because it’s non existent.

No helmet, nothing, modular full face Harley helmet, nothing, Beanie Helmet, nothing… the only helmet I still have issues with is my older Harley half helmet (mushroom top).

I look just over the top of my Freedom Shield 10” recurve.

Don’t give up the ship! You’ll find the right combination!

I went with a Freedom Shields 10.5" touring width, DK cooling wing deflectors and a DK 1.5" tank lift. That took all of the buffeting away for me no matter what helmet I wear. I regularly ride the interstate at 70+ mph to work with no issues.

Well I installed the JES wings/fork fangs last night. took it for a ride today little to no head buffeting

seems as though they moved the wind turbulence down around my knees which isnt an issue

Wasnt much of a ride only a few miles but it seemed the fans stayed on longer when I shut the trike off

Will take it for a longer ride tomorrow and see whats up

Just to repeat what I’ve mentioned previously… To counteract the potential added heat when adding the fork fangs I installed a set of Love Jugs fans, as well as the Harley CoolFlow fan.

My radiator fans runs less often after shut down with this setup in place.

I also added a Stage II with torque cam, which noticeably helped the motor run even cooler.

I see your running in a hot climate. I highly recommend adding some cooling help to counter the fork fangs engine airflow reduction.

(Adding DK’s cooling deflector wings would be your most cost effective improvement option IMO… I have those as well). Can’t over cool these motors!

I put the DK wings on about a week ago along with floorboard extensions and the tour pak relocation bracket

Having to put on all these "necessities" is getting a little annoying though just to make it rideable

I bought this thing because I wanted the foot room of a V Twin which my old 05 Gold Wing didnt have because of the 6 cylinder engine nor did it have a warranty

But I am beginning think that a 17 year old GoldWing is still a superior machine compared to this new H.D.

Buddy of mine has a '80 Goldwing still running strong. All he's done is the usual, oil changes, brakes, tires. Almost as reliable as my '76 Superglide.
