Why Maggie Valley?

I'm just curious, when the first Gathering was discussed, why was the location picked at Maggie Valley? I see people come in from all over the country. I'm just curious why Maggie Valley was chosen.

Well, first of all it's GOD'S country. Then you have 'Wheels thru Time' museum and then there are hundreds if not thousands of terrific miles to ride throughout the Blue Ridge Mountain area. And this is to say nothing about the wonderful people that live up there. Enough?

Yeah, that pretty much explains it. Don't get me wrong I wasn't complaining about it as I live right here in North Carolina. I was just curious as to why Maggie Valley was chosen.
