That's OK, Jolie. 58 & newbie triker. Haven't been on any type of cycle in over 25 years. Realized what I'd been missing first ride. Fuzzy,,only 2 years I plan on riding for 20 years after I'm gone at least. :laugh:

That's what I love about this forum, you can say what you think and no one get upset. All I can say is I like riding and plan on doing it as long as I can.

I agree Fuzz. No offense to the OP, but when you reach a certain age, you stop worrying about whether anyone thinks you're a poser, wannabe or whatever label they want to hang on you. I know I dont give a rat's ass what anyone thinks about whether I'm riding or trailering, riding 50 miles or 10,000 miles a month, cause I sure don't worry about what everyone else is doing, that's not my job. I say it's your life, your trike and your money...spend it doing what you want when you want.

Well said ! I ride for ME. If I want to trailer I do. After 30+ yrs of riding with clubs or just independent riders. I have NOTHING to prove to anyone. It's now all about Fun and what's makes me and my girl happy !ThumbUp

I know I'm a Newbie but once I get comfortable I plan to ride my trike as much as possible. Don't plan on being a "poser". I put plenty of miles on my cars bought one at the end of November with 10,000 and it now has 24,000 so the trike will get miles too, and soon. If I spend money on it I'm using it! The lady who ordered mine new in 2007 only put 2330 on it and traded it last November for a new GW. I got it at a great price I can afford and in great condition so I really lucked out for my first trike. I no longer want to depend on someone to take me riding (especially after someone dropping their bike twice with me and breaking my wrist) and I don't want to hear bikes go by and watch them wishing I was out there feeling the wind and freedom. Taking it in my own hands and making my dreams come true. I only wish I could have afforded a trike several years ago. I'm 55 and keep thinking there's not going to be enough time to ride as much as I want.

I love your attitude about riding Jolie. ThumbUp And you'll make time to ride. At 55 and just starting out is NO problem. Learning something everyday will stay with you for a long time. ThumbUp

Some folks buy because their friends did and think it is cool, then find out it's not for them. Some never want to ride more than bar to bar. Some ride till the wheels fall off. We are all somewhere in between these groups. For many of us when newbies, we ride everywhere. Hell I used to ride to work at 12 degrees. But after about 200k of riding, I know I no longer have anything to prove, so I ride when I want to. Traded a 14 limited for my 14 triglide and now have 7800 miles on it . Would have put more if the weather had been ok. That does include a trip to Daytona for bike week. But if it's raining and I don't have to ride, I can always choose to hop in the wifes German Dieselmobile or my truck and stay dry.

Am I a poser? Maybe..Am I a triker? definitely ! Am I having fun on this gorgeous red trike? More than I deserve.

Life happens and then things change and we keep on going. My plan was to ride all the time and do those long trips without anything being planned. Here is my story: In 2007 I sold the small bike and went for the gold and bought a new Ultra Classic. What a road bike. 3 months later the youngest told us that she was going to Iraq and asked if we could keep the granddaughter, which we did. We had sold the house and were living in a motorhome, so we moved into her place and put things on hold until her return. She was injured and then the treatment started. 2 hip surgeries, 3 brain procedures and 2 eye procedures, lots of therapy and all the medical stuff for a disability retirement and then 3 and 1/2 years later Lori was out of the Army.

I was her caretaker for that period of time. Bike riding went on hold until she recovered enough to take care of herself and the daughter.

Fast forward, I sold the ultra, 18600 miles, in aug 2014 and bought a 2014 triglide. We had the trike a short time and the wife has been going thru some medical issues. The trike has 1200 miles on it at present. The good news came today, the wife was given a clear bill of health and we are going to be on the road. Last month I purchased a toy hauler, so as we see some of the countryside it will be from the seat of the truck, but the trike is with us. As we are holding up somewhere the trike will be racking up a few miles.
I know this was long, but life happens and we keep going. Jim

I will echo Fuzzy's sentiments. You did the right thing with your granddaughter and your daughter then your wife. Looking at someone we never know their situation. A perfectly healthy looking person with heart disease or COPD.

My friend and mentor Baron lost his leg just below the knee riding. 4 months later he was back on his bike. Now he has an artificial leg and a handicapped tag. On his Road King it was a bit unusual. He parked at Walmart one day in a Handicapped spot. A guy walking by said, "you don't look very handicapped."

Baron took his leg off and set it on the seat and said " You didn't look very stupid to me, but obviously we were both wrong." Guys wife told him to shut up and keep walking.


As Fuzzy said, we never know what route someone else is taking. Put that trike in the toyhauler and get out there and enjoy life. It's really fairly temporary . Enjoy while you can.

I'm totally in tune with folks having demands on their time that keep them off the road on their trikes. I was caretaker for my wife during her last few years of cancer and couldn't leave the house for long.

However, my original post was just a curiosity question. If a person spends 25 or 30 thousand on a vehicle then doesn't ride it because of health, time demands, or loss of interest - are all of these people selling their low mileage trikes just to get rid of it?

To me, my trikes are an expense no different than a car. It's my regular transportation around town and for trips to rallys and visits to my out of town family.

I know several bikers that don't even own a car.

(BTW, I don't know where the term "poser" came from. I never used it.)

who dosent ride well

I just don't get it. There are a dozen or so trikes for sale here and most of them have logged less than 3,000 miles per year. That's not even 2 decent trips to an out of town rally per year! Not even a 50 mile round trip RTE on a weekend! WTF?

What's wrong with these trikes? Do they have mechanical problems? Are they not comfortable to ride? Are they just show pieces that sit in the garage? Where are the real riders?



I have 2 trikes and put a total 20,000 miles per year on them. The BMW is for sale on this board because I really don't need two bikes in the garage. Truth be told, the BMW is the better touring bike for road trips, but I use the GW for daily commuting because the sound system is better.

Please tell me what's the deal here, or could it be that most posters are just a bunch of wannabe riders??? orag:

Like others after 3 stints and caroted arteries surgery I have lost some of my spunk I still like to tinker with mine thinking I will ride it latter but right now just don't feel like I should ride if not really up to it. Thinking about selling mine now two but not many people will want a Honda 750 with a trigg on it . But it is great for around town and it will run all day long at 70 mph rides smooth too and steers great well maybe I'll keep it.
