Which Kit ????

New to this forum. I own a 1999 1500SE. I want to trike it. Had a little mishap with my daughter on the back. No I didn't lay it down. But it was to close for comfort. And a couple other incidents coming up to stop signs where I was a little wobbly. So I want to make it safer for me and the passenger. Because I am not ready to quit riding.

So any 1500 owners can pass on their words of wisdom to me. I would appreciate it. I believe I have narrowed my choices to motor trike phoenix or csc 1500 sport. I like the looks of the csc. But I read on forums that they had drive shaft problems a while back. Have they fixed this problem. Any info from trike owners would be most helpful. Thanks.

I have the same bike and just did a Roadsmith conversion last fall. We test road a few and for us (my wife) Roadsmith was the best ride. My only complaint is the seal on the trunk. I have been getting water leaking in and it is very irritating. I brought it back in and they supposedly fixed it but there are still issues.

As far as the ride goes, I don't know why I didn't do it years ago. Good luck with your choice, exciting times.

Shortly after I purchased a new-to-me 2010 GL1800 to replace the 1990 GL1500SE that we have had since new, my wife with her aging knees announced that we should trike the GL1500 to replace her Honda Shadow. I told her one doesn't spend that much money to trike a 25 year old bike with 136K miles on it. She asked why not? After all, I know the complete history of it and, well, it has become somewhat of a family heirloom. Wouldn't it be better to continue seeing in the garage as a trike rather than selling it to some stranger to ride off into the sunset. Okay, fine. Point made. So we order up a trike conversion to be done at the Motor Trike factory and deliver it personally as they are only about 25 miles away. They installed the Phoenix IRS kit with the easy steer option.

My wife loves her trike! MT did a great job installing it as well as matching the unique 1990 pearl white/ocean gray paint. I'm kinda on the fence about triking my 2010 GL1800 at the moment after an "event" last month that reminded me I'm not as young as I used to be. I'll tell you this as others on this board will say, there is a definite learning curve to riding a trike. But, once learned, most people love it and glad that went that direction!

yes csc fixed there drive shaft problem. we have a 2013 goldwing with a csc kit. my wife and i are real happy with it.

Take a long look at the Road Smith products, compare the thickness of their frame to the others.

Welcome glad you joined us. Had a MotorTrike on my 1990 SE and loved it. I am sure CSC has FIXED their problem. I have a 08Wing/13 Roadsmith now and have had no problems in 60,000 miles. Most of the kits available are GOOD. Just keep in mind the installer will have a lot to do with your satisfaction. RIDE SAFE

Thanks for all the feedback people. Hopefully more people will give me their opinions. This will be real stretch for me financially. But like I said I am not ready to be done riding. So if it keeps me in the saddle another 10 or 15 years it will be more than worth it. Plus it will keep daddys little girl happy. She is always after me to go riding. She is not so little anymore.....LOL. She is 22 years old. But still my little girl

The CSC driveshaft problem was with their GL1800 kits.
Problem has been fixed.

I just bought my first trike, its being delivered today. I did 3 months of research and came down to roadsmith or CSC. I got a CSC, but would have taken roadsmith as well. Good luck

My previous trike was a 2000 GL1500 SE with a solid axle CSC Sport Kit. I never had any issues with the trike. The CSC Kit they offer now is a IRS kit with a much larger trunk. The trike I ride now is a Roadsmith HTS with independent suspension. When the time came to trike my GL1800 I considered another CSC or a Roadsmith. We took a demo ride on a Roadsmith at Americade in 2015 and decided to go with Roadsmith. We also have about 8 chapter members with CSC trikes and no one else with a Roadsmith HTS Kit and I wanted to be different than the others.Although the the CSC solid axle trike would probably out handle my Roadsmith in the twisties the Roadsmith with IRS has a far smoother ride. I feel my Roadsmith rides as well on 3 wheels as it did on 2. CSC & Roadsmith are both quality trikes. Whichever trike kit you decide on, I think you'll be happy.

Like I read here so many times, all tikes are good, it's the installer that makes a big difference.

I was at my Roadsmith installer having some minor adjustments made, and he was removing
one conversion a customer wasn't happy with, and adding a Roadsmith conversion.

There was a drive shift laying there on the floor of his shop that he removed from the old trike conversion.
To my surprise it was half the size of a Roadsmith shift, and I told him I couldn't believe the toy like size.

Like I said, I should of ask want make of trike brand that was.

I presently have a Champion conversion. However if I had to do it over I would have gone with hannigan they make an outstanding conversion. They cost a bit more but from what I've seen and roadtested its well worth it. Remember to have a reputable person do the conversion. I went with Lonestar trikes with a lot of regrets. Mine is a 1989 GW the mistakes from the conversion were corrected and every thing is fine now...its been well over 10 years.

Roadsmith

I triked my 1996 1500 with a Roadsmith kit. The reason was I wanted floor boards I could stand on, a spare fuel tank and IRS. Roadsmith was the only one to offer all three options for a 1500.

It is a solid kit and I have had no problems, UNC Customs near Charlotte did the work flawless including matching the paint correctly.

Decide what you want or need on the trike and that will narrow down you choices especially on a 1500.

I have a 1999 GL1500SE with a CSC Sport trike kit. No,I didn't buy it new but I have ZERO regrets. I have been told that the 1500 has a tad bit more leg room than the 1800 so I will stay with the 1500 for a while. The CSC kit is solid and the 1500 is the standard by which others are judged so the combo is next to unbeatable. (If you are agreeable to the Goldwing as opposed to other makes) PM me if you have any 'more specific' questions.
