Where is your wire harness, switch and dual controller mounted?

Re: Where is your wire harness, switch and dual controller mounted?

As far as I know there are only 3 types of connectors.

1. Old Gerbing male/female to female/male connector ( I had adapters to connect those to the new single connectors).

2. Gerbing single male to female connector (Powerlet and Firstgear are the same type).

3. BMW connector

If there are other types out there, I've never seen one.

I just read some reviews on the Cycle Gear website in regards to the Sedici jacket and pants liners. Some people are complaining about the jacket liner plug is different then the pants liner plug.....and each one has it's own controller. That seems really strange ......and stupid if it's true. Their plugs look like all the other coax plugs.

Re: Where is your wire harness, switch and dual controller mounted?

If I didn't have a Cycle Gear store locally, I probably wouldn't have taken the risk mail order for a brand I hadn't heard of. I'm pretty sure that Sedici is their in house brand (like BILT is for their helmets) as they offer the same lifetime "OTC exchange" warranty on the Sedici stuff that they offer on the BILT stuff.

I can tell you the connectors are all the same; so no issues there. I was lucky to be able to try on the HD suit and the Sedici suit before making a purchase decision.

As for each piece coming with it's own controller being stupid; to be honest - why wouldn't you want a free controller? Even if you didn't use it? Like every other suit out there, you can run it without the plug in controllers; but having one or more of them to optionally use at no cost is another good thing in my opinion.

I'm not discounting Gerbing. They make incredible products. I'm just pointing out that there are other alternatives (just as others have mentioned FirstGear) and that you may have more choices than you expect for over the counter purchases of heated gear i your local area.

Re: Where is your wire harness, switch and dual controller mounted?

Jim, I was just saying that having a separate controller for each item is stupid in an inconvenient way. If someone doesn't object to that senario, that's fine.
I hate even having one controller, but what are you going to do, you have to have one. I originally had the gloves and an on/off switch. What a PITA that was - constantly turning it off then on then off etc. I had a single controller for years for my gloves and jacket liner, but when I bought the pants liner I knew I would want the pants liner to be hotter then the jacket liner or gloves so I got the dual controller and I'm quite satisfied.
You are correct about getting them free - why not, but could they lower the price if they didn't offer them free?? Having extra controllers and not need them is kind of a waste and dust catcher. :)

You're also right about having the store close by - that makes a big difference. That's why I normally buy stuff from my dealer instead of mail order. Returning is so much easier and faster. Plus I get a great discount.

I think one of the main differences is the wire material. Gerbings/H-D is stainless steel. I'm not sure what the other brands are. I think copper.

I guess it really doesn't matter which brand as long as you're warm.ThumbUp

Now you've got me wondering if I'm hooking my heated gear up wrong. The dual controller has the jacket contolled by one dial and the pants and gloves on the other. This is a problem because I want the pants warmer than the gloves. I"ve got all Gerbing gear with the dual controller and it's hooked into the jacket as per the directions (wire colors matching the plug-in "box" inside the jacket. How did you get the jacket and gloves to work together and the other controller for the pants? I was thinking about getting a second controller for just the pants, but like you, there's too many wires/boxes hanging off me now.

Re: Where is your wire harness, switch and dual controller mounted?

I can't remember how I hooked them all up. I did have a lot of trial and error. If I remember correctly I hooked them all up differently then what was indicated. When I get home I'll look and post how.
