Wheels question

I'm new to the forum and new to riding and I need some advice. I recently purchased an '09 Tri-Glide. First bike ever. Only had a chance to take a couple of real rides before winter set in. This is going to be fun.
I'd like to chrome the existing wheels or replace them. I see Harley makes an Anarchy wheel and others like Performance Machine make some nice wheels. But, those are larger tire sizes which will result in less sidewall. I've had problems with that with cars because there are lots of potholes in my area. Should I be concerned with that on a trike?
Thanks for helping a newbie.

Personally, I doubt you'll be on the sidewall with enough force (like in a car) to break the bead on larger wheels. That being said, I'm not the biggest fan of the low sidewall craze myself.

welcome aboard. Just be concerned with getting whatever you change to on and off.

The clearances are tight on those wheels to the body.

I have had the HD Anarchy wheels for about a year/15000 miles with the lift kit. The ride is great, the wheels look really good and clean/wax must easier than stock.

I was thinking the same thing about chroming the wheels, but then I found a web site fron a chromer - some guy that has been in the buisness for decades.
He said he would never chrome aluminum wheels. He wrote a 2 page reason why not. I wish I had saved that report now.
I thought right away that Harley aluminum wheels are chrome and so are dozens of other mfg's. I'm not a chemist so I really didn't understand all that he was talking about. Maybe someone more knowledgable on this forum can comment.

He did say that if you get your wheels chromed, get a guarantee against pitting and de-laminating, which he said no chromer will give you - he wouldn't.

I've never had bare untreated aluminum wheels before and these Harley ones are going to be a bitch to keep looking good.
For $32k you would think Harley would have chrome wheels on the Tri Glide.

41inWV, I think he was refering to the harsher ride from narrow sidewall tires not riding up on them.
I just bought a GMC Terrain with 19" wheels w/narrow sidewall tires - BIG MISTAKE. The larger the sidewall the softer the ride. Can you imagine riding in one of those "Tuner Cars" that have 1" sidewalls. It must be like riding on solid rubber tires.

Give willyshiny a call. Read a lot of good reports on his work and just got my front wheel from him today. Beautiful job of chroming. Going to do the rear wheels next month. Talk to Joe, nice guy to talk to and he will answer all your questions.

I have a set of HD Anarchy wheels, had them for over a year now, ride and handels
great, no difference than the stock wheels except the Anarchy wheels look alot nicer
and alot easier to keep clean and looking nice.

Has anybody bought wheels from the forum sponsor Performance machine?
Trying to help my wife (TNTriker) with a set of wheels for her 2012 Triglide.

I won a set:D, I chose the wheels they call Luxe in the chrome finish. I expect them to be exceptional which is what I've seen of their products on others peoples bikes.

When you getting your new wheels put on?? We need pics for us to see..

I'll sure do that, it may be awhile because my trike is buried in the back garage behind my dads enclosed trailer. I'll have to dig it out and take it to the shop down the street at my dads place once I'm done with the engine on my bike.
