went on a poker run

I went on a poker run yesterday there weren't to many bikes, Not to much rain.

Ran out to Independence rock and back through Freemont Canyon Outside Casper.



My old friend Ron 40 yr. friendship and its still good.

Poker run

We went on the SaintSinners poker run out of Las Vegas this week-end, 400 mi., but first we had to get there, 500 mi each way - great 3 day week-end - total 1500 miles + I turned 60 thou. on my 2010 HD trike.

We try to do poker runs for a good cause , especially if a child is involved. Some of the best runs we have been on were for kids. And if we win any cash, we donate it right back to the cause. We do keep the t shirts. I don't like the ones where they go from bar to bar and the riders have a couple of beers at each bar and by the end of the run, they are not very safe to ride near. So if they are doing a lot of bars, we get the route, leave quickly and don't take a lot of time at the stops. We tend to try to ride by ourselves or our riding buddies who don't drink and ride either.

I am not saying you can't drink and ride, you are grown folks. I choose not to. I don't have anything against having a drink. However, as one whose Dad was killed by a drunk driver, I probably have a different outlook than most. After the ride, I have been know to consume an adult beverage or two but only after the riding is done and I am stopped for the night.

Just my opinion.

My wife and I also enjoy various poker runs or other types of rides for various causes. The ones we go on tend to be ones for military, vets, suicide prevention runs and a program that our HOG chapter sponsor which is a backpack program for kids. The program supplies a backpack filled with nutritious and easy to use food items that are sent home with a child over the weekend to provide them with good meals. There are over 200 kids in the Jamestown area that are provided this service. We also don't like the rides where every stop is at a bar and they spend half an hour there and some have two beers. The ND Patriot Guard puts on a great memorial ride for the families of those killed in the Iraq, Afghanistan and Desert Storm. The event is held in the Jamestown Civic Center and is a two day affair with a steak fry the first night and then the next morning a memorial service and presentation to the families of those killed and then the ride which returns back for a supper and dance.

I am with you Steve on 3, we lost our daughter to a drunk that hit her head on on FM 730 near Azle Tx. I also have a cold beer now & again however it is after the run, preferable by the camp fire.ThumbUp

I'm an alcoholic who hasn't drank in six years.
I don't mind if the stops are at bars they usually have a coffee pot on. And i really don't care if a guy has a beer or two. I don't care if people drink but i don't ride with the guys who only attend to swill booze.:AGGHH: Too many of them remind me of myself?:laugh:

I never expect to win anything on a poker run.
I usually look at the stops and if it's just a ride between local bars i normally just get with some friends and put on some miles.
I would rather ride than stand around and B.S. anyway.

I quit drinking on Dec 15, 1985. Now age 73, haven't missed it at all.
Everyone that we ride with now, have their drinks when we stop for the night.

I hate to say it on a polite and politically correct forum but there were many times I couldn't slap my posterior with either hand and my old Harleys knew their way home.
It amazes me I never fell off or wrecked or got a DUI? That was pretty normal behavior for me.:AGGHH:

Mine either, Good risk management wasn't at the forefront of my thinking when I wore a younger mans clothes and hair length. :laugh:

There are old bikers and bold bikers but there are no old, bold bikers!
