VW Trike

Hi Folks

How many of you own a VW trike and do you like your or do you wish you own something else?

My first experience was not to good but then again It was not that expensive when I bought it. I was thinking of possibly getting another one next year.

I hear a lot of people love there VW... I like to get something like the roadhawk.

We (She) owned a Trike Shop V-Cycle Runabout 09120002.JPG with an 1835cc engine, 40mm dual throat DRLA Dell'Orto carb, automatic transmission, a foot accelerator was installed, had some paint and pinstriping and had a ball on it for 11 years. We both wish we could have kept it. It was fun, got a lot of attention, almost always won first place in the trike class at shows and was easy for Gloria to pilot. They only thing was is it was a hot rod, and we wanted to do more distance riding. As we got older, we realized we needed (wanted) more creature comforts, like custom seats, cushy ride, alternative foot rests, etc. The Blue Trike was OK for 300 or 400 miles a day for us, and that was pushing it a bit. Under 300 miles was the usual. On the other hand, a few weeks ago we came home from our annual trip to Minnesota - we did 538 miles that day, no problem.

It depends on what kind of riding you are going to do. If I had the cash and the room, I would get another VW tirke, most likely another Trike Shop Runabout or Roadhawk in a New York Minute. But for the distance riding we do, we'll keep the GL1800 Champion trike.

ThumbUp,,,Love mine , the only other I would won't would be a Rewaco but at this age to pricey a toy , a few years back maybe .

I run a type 3 with dual carbs and a springer which all require a little more attention that most cares to do but doesn't bother me , I'll buy a new one and have it changed before the first oil change . LOL

What I've found this one doesn't hurt my back as much as my bikes were beginning to but to each his own . My next move may be a scooter if that's what it takes to keep doing what I enjoy . I will swap to a ecotec 2.4 engine when this one goes back but right now it stills runs sweet ,,,FINALLY !!!! :clapping:

I like mine, but I wish the vw engine didnt need the valves reset every oil change.
Also, vw mechanics who know what they are doing, are getting hard to find.
If mine was brand new, I might enjoy it more.
Mine needs a complete rebuild from the frame up and I will probably replace it with a motorcycle based
trike shortly.
But for running around locally, it is a blast.

We love our Road Hawk, and the only thing I will change is the padding in the seats. They get really hard after about 3 hrs. Might change the drivers seat to a bucket seat type if I can find one that looks like it belongs there. Other than that, love it...

Mine is an all out hot rod. Fun run about toy. I never have the time to go far and I like to work on stuff. Love mine.

I wouldn't own anything but a VW trike. No computers, no anti-freeze, in my state anything over 25 years old does not have to be emission tested. They are simple engines, I can do all of the repair and maintenance myself. Mine has car seats, we can ride all day and never get tired. And it didn't set me back $30K or $40K. I built it and probably have $3K or $4k invested. Up here in the NW, $40K is lot of money to spend on a trike that can only be used 3 or 4 months a year because of the weather.ThumbUp

I love mine. Stock vw 1600 duel port rebuilt engine with 4 speed manual trans. My girlfriend don't like the wind in her face, even with the windshield I sit so much lower then her. { oh well }:( I can't keep up with the 2 wheelers in acceleration. But once I'm in high gear I can usually catch up. I think I'm a lot safer and more comfortable on 3 wheels at 72 years old. And they sure are an eye catcher. ThumbUp

i was thinking of getting another trike, maybe VW, traded mine last year for a motorcycle. After i sell this motorcycle I will be shopping again or trade the bike in on another bike.
