Took a 80 mile ride today with my son-in-law and 12 of his Iraq veteran buddies. We visited 4 different cemeteries to honor 4 of their fallen brothers. When we were all done and I was saying my goodbyes to them to my surprise they thanked me for riding with them today.... I was speechless. Me being 62 years old being thanked by 30-35 year old active duty vets, unbelievable!!!!

You impressed those Active Soldiers by taking the time to join them in honoring their brothers that gave the ultimate sacrifice. That is also something that will stay with your grandson for the rest of his life.

as much as I appreciate the service to our nation and all that served in the past, me included Memorial Day is about remembering our brothers and sisters that did not make it home. I like so many made it home for which I am so grateful, but the memory by all of us for those that didn't is what is important. If you didn't personally know someone who didn't, just stop and say a prayer for them. Believe me when I say the hurt does not go away.
