Planning on a trip to Texas, leaving this coming Saturday (5/17/08) and running down to Tyler. We will be camping in the Bunkhouse trailer at Tyler State Park. We will be visiting the Motor Trike factory in Troup (one of the reasons for staying in Tyler) to see where Her Purpleness was born and get some tips on the mechanical side of things.

Anyone have any suggestions on Must See/ Gotta Do/ Can't Miss stuff in the area? We'll have about 10 days, pullijng up stakes and checking out somewhere else isn't out of the picture.

Hi Ozarkrider--we are from east TX--close to Athens which is about 45 miles from Tyler. Currently we are in Harrison, AR riding the roads trying to stay cooler here than there. If we want to get out and ride, go to a little town called Edom and eat at The Shedd. A lot of bikers go there and the food is really good--they have a website so you can get some more information. Keep sunscreen handy! Oh, at the risk of sounding really stupid, what is the bunkhouse trailer?

We were really looking forward t the Texas trip, but the "W" word got in the way. Had a bit of a shakeup at the job, (both of us work for the schools in Bentonville) and we had a meeting we didn't want to miss. Will make the trip later on.

Hope you are having a good time riding the Ozarks - Have you checked out Hwy 7? Took a jaunt down the Pig Trail or headed over to Eureka Springs? Lots of great roads in the area.

The Bunkhouse is a pop-up tent camper designed to pull behind a motorcycle. Near-king size bed, 6X6 foot changing/living area and storage in the trailer below the folded up tent. Link to the camper maker:

And here is a picture of it at the Deal's Gap campground on our Smokey Mountains trip last year:

Ozarkryder, I know about the W word, though we are both retired. I am a retired school administrator and haven't missed a single minute of it since I retired. Steve was an owner/operator trucker and he hasn't missed a minute of it since he sold his equipment. Kids are grown and on their own, so we are finally there--doing pretty much what we want to. Riding has become a passion for us and we are loving this part of AR that we're in. Yes, we've ridden Hwy 7 from Harrison south and north. We've ridden all around Hwy 16, 23, all all the runs on the map we were given. We haven't done the pig trail yet, but are going to have some warranty work done on our 5th wheel in Springdale sometime this summer, so we'll probably ride around that area when we're there. We just don't know when yet since we are not ready to leave the area we're in. This is beautiful country! BTW, when I responded to your post, I didn't realize it was way past the time you would have gone to TX.
