Hi, I'm a newbee, helping a neighbor who is planning to wed a Sportster to an MGB tail. We have the frame connection pretty much figured out and now Looking for input on different ways to connect the power train.

I have recently built a Honda GL500 / MGB "Old Yeller" trike but my bike was shaft driven to start with.

This drive is a whole nuther game. Pictures welcomed.
Send to: windjammer73ATgmailDOTcom You know how to change the address to get mail to me.

Thanks in advance.

Hey Phil, welcome to TrikeTalk! You should get lots of input as several of our members have been through that process too. Let us see pictures of your own trike and of the build process you are working through right now!

Welcome aboard Phil. Nice trike builds. No help in the drive department. I would guess that you are trying to use the MGB rear suspension and drive?

Welcome to the board... pretty kool looking trikes  thanks for posting the pictures...
Ride safe and keep us posted....

Good guess. I guess what I'm looking for is a right angle 1-1 gearbox that would be strong enough to handle the directional change. Any resulting ratio changes could be handled with the secondary pulley size.

No input from here, I've decided to try a GL1100 final drive in reverse, that way maybe the 1-3 ratio on the pumpkin will cancel out the 3-1 of the MGB rear end. It may work, it may not, no big cost to try it, Thanks for your kind comments on my photos.

There was a company that made components for 5/8 scale hot rods and race cars, that are powered by motorcycle engines. They made reverse units, right angle chain to drive shaft units etc. http://www.jaxports.com/ The site has changed to only show the reverse but there's a phone number. Maybe give them a call. Good luck.

Well, we went with the Honda pumpkin installed backwards with the driven HD pulley bolted to the Honda outpout and the Honda input shaft (now the MGB driveshaft) I am flabbergasted that it actually works and works well so far.

Congrats Phil. Sometimes you need to go with what seems good to you. I did not have any experience in that department to help with.
