Trike Rear Lift

I won the ebay bid and paid for them. As soon as they arrive I hope I can get them installed. Most of my tools are in Florida, especially my air tools. :( Sounds like they will get my mufflers up, I have dents from dragging them :(

They went out yesterday. The last for me and E-bay. They seem to charge you front and back and in-between! So is life.

Here’s a follow-up on my install. First of all the brackets showed up here in Calif, quicker than I thought they would and the fabrication quality is top notch. Installation was fairly easy although I don’t enjoy pulling wrenches while lying on my back on the garage floor as much as I used to.

After the install, I stood back to take a look and liked what I saw. After reading another comment on this forum, I only put 40 psi back in the shocks instead of the usual 50 psi. The next day I took a 150 mile trip through the mountains with my wife sitting behind me. The ride quality was significantly improved with a plusher but still controlled feeling.

Others here have commented that they noticed no difference in handling. I presume that these were based on around-town riding. For me, the change was dramatic! I’m guessing that by raising the back end, more weight is transferred to the front. This extra weight on the front tire meant that I could carry more speed into the turns and the tire still had plenty of grip.

I spent my whole day zooming around corners and passing cars (not on the turns); something I couldn’t do before this mod. Ironic because I told my wife I was getting a trike because it was time to just relax and cruise. Well that plan lasted until this weekend.

I’d recommend this modification to anyone.

Dennis ::: I got a question .. By installing the lift brackets for the shocks will there be more travel in rear suspension. My 09 triglide bottoms out quite regularly with 50 psi in shocks with my wife and I on the trike I weigh 215 and she is about 140... It really jolts us when it bottoms out. I have not been able to correct this prob by changing pressure in factory shocks..

I dont bottom out anymore with the Legend air ride suspension. And I think it improved with the brackets Dennis is selling and I think its ride height maybe higher than stock depending on how much pressure I put in the shocks.. I know the suspension is expensive but I am happy now with the smoother ride than stock.

Of course I'm sure everyone re-aims their headlight, passing and driving lights after installing these lift brackets

I'm wondering if your just hitting hard due to the higher air pressure. I run 40 pounds and have never bottomed out. Right now I'm 260 and the wife is about 140, I run this same pressure with a full trunk and tour-pak plus a bag strapped to the king tour-pak rack.

Dennis, I received the brackets. Now to find enough tools up here to change them. :) and hide from the wife to work on motorcycle. :) Most all of my tools, jack stands and jacks are in Florida. :(

What I have found on our last trip to NC last week. I dropped air in tires, rear, to 24. This before lift, bad roads in this town. Just to see if it would add a little cush around town. Seemed to help. Then with lift, I lowered shock PSI, keep around 30 now. I decided to leave rear tires at 24 for trip and after every tank, felt tires and all seemed well.

All this, loaded with extra bag on top of tour box and two up. Several hours in a down pour, interstate as well as some curvy two lanes and all, Tri Glide is all we need.
I also feel more bite to front end, like that feeling. It was not real dramatic a change so I never felt it was a negetive, so reported no change in overall handeling. I do not have a way to weigh all three points of bike, would be interested in how much weight transfer their is.
So overall, try lower rear air and also lower shock PSI, I have only felt like we bottomed out hitting a large hole with one rear tire.
Just my impressions on a new ride. Only 6000 on this 11 so far, but retire in less than a month and hope to start stacking on some miles and smiles!

Just had my lift put on by Bikes to Trikes in Lee's Summit,MO. Trike was a LOT smoother and felt more civilized with the air pressures set at the recommended settings. BTT also said I had an oil leak that appears to be coming from the oil cooler. I had an oil pressure gauge installed so I will have to take Blue Man back in for a check. Oh well....

I just installed a set of the brackets on my friend CJ's 2011 Tri-Glide yesterday.

He loves the change, he said " it handles like a slot car, in our mountain curves", he lives 100 miles south of me. He said it rides and looks so much better, he can't believe it is the same trike!

A side note to this story:

I have a 2009 Road- Glide/Lehman, these brackets will not work on a Lehman conversion, I tried them. Hole patterns are exactly the same, as Lehman and the Harley are the same! The axle will not drop enough to allow the shock to be mounted, it is about .50 of inch to long!

BUT!!!!

The stock Tri-Glide bracket does fit on a Lehman, it raised my pipes .75 of an inch, not quite what I was looking for but, better than nothing!

I have sent my stock Lehman brackets to Dennis, for him to see if he wants to do Lehman specific brackets in the future.

SO MAYBE THERE IS LIGHT IN THIS TUNNEL, LEHMAN OWNERS!!

lehman trike

Well, that being said, does anyone want my stock brackets for their Lehman conversion? They're free, you just cover UPS shipping from Fresno, CA (93725 if you go online for a quote).

I have been talking with mike and sharing e mails. It seems that the stock Lehman sits even lower than a stock tri glide. Putting on stock tri glide plates raised the rear pipes only .75 inch, we are getting a lift around 1.625 at rear muffler tips, he also was looking for even more lift. He put the stock tri glide ones on so he could send me his stock ones and between us, we could figure out the raise needed. The stock Lehmen brackets only mount with two of the three bolts but now we know that the three holes available on the Lehman match the stock tri glide and what ever bracket we come up with will now mount with three.
Hopefully now that I have a person with a Lehman to work with, we will be able to get them out of the weeds also.

Just spoke to Mike again on phone. He is putting the Lehman stock brackets in the mail to me. Sounds like making brackets for a Tri Glide for .75 inch will get him lift at the rear muffler tips in the 1.5 or 1.625 range. Seems they have different location of shocks at top. I will cut him a pair and go from there and see what he thinks. This would also give TG owners the option of a .75 or 1.25 lift if this works out.
Dennis

tri-glide yes on removing the tires. under the trunk there is 2 1" crossmembers, and use a 5"x8" board with a 3 ton jack raise the tire off the ground. i also used a small jack stan under the rear bunper brace for security. lugnuts 3/4"

I love the look and ride with the new brackets. No jarring over bumps and a better, level look. Now, after having the oil temp gauge put on, and a leak repaired, on to cooling the trike down and eventually getting much larger and better rear brakes. If you haven't seen the rear rotors, they look like they came off a clown car! Any suggestions? Sorry, don't mean to hijack the thread!

Dennis, just installed the lift brackets on today. Going on that ride to Angola in the morning. Just went to fill up,can't tell from that.Left 26lbs in tires & dropped shocks from 50 to 40. Hopefully will be able to feel the differance running down the toll road. We are taking 120 back to Elkart from Angola, so should have some curves. But not like going in hills or sharp turns. let you know more this weekend. Hope everybody has a safe weekend. Get the trikes out & enjoy!!!!!!! Jim

Dennis, went on the ride to Angola today. Man was it hot!!! There was around 10,000 bikes, not confirmed yet. Got pictures of the beam from the tower. Will try to post it if I can figure out how to do it. Plus I need to get pictures of my bike. The lift kit made it easier to go into curves & looks alot better just sitting their. Everybody commented on the bike. Best looking & sounding one their. You know how it sounds. Might have more customers for the kit. Time to hit the sack & ride to Fort Wyane tomorow for lunch. Thanks again for the kit Dennis. Nice job!

Hey Dennis, haven't scraped my pipes since I installed the lift. It's nice not having to worry about that. I'd recomend the kit to anybody. Now I'm having to deal with the stock seat. Too soft!!! My ass is killing me. Took the seat over to Elkart to have jell-pads installed.Putting alligater down the middle & ostrich on the rest of the seat. Hope it takes care of the problem. Going to the Peotone swap meet this Sunday. Thanks again Dennis!!!!

Mike,
Got your stock Lehman brackets and did a scan. Picture is your bracket laying on print of new bracket. Question, when mounted on bike, does bottom have the angled side up or down? See picture. Is it positioned right on picture.
