Hi guys.....
Does anyone have any good info on putting a trike kit on my 93 FLHS?? I am going to install it myself..I haven't purchased anything yet but am looking at Champion solid axle kit. Don't have any money for a tri-glide so forget that. Ha!! Thanks..Dave

I'll take a Champion over a DTF any day! I have a 2010 ultra with Independent rear axle... wife loves the ride more than the solid axle..buy a long shot. I like the solid just fine and have put about 300 miles on one and thought it was ok for the rider and just a little less cushy for the passenger... but part of that problem may have been the stock seat!

Champion had some issues with their rear independent rear ends early but, have sorted those issues out about a year ago.. the solid rear end..is flawless. If you don't get 100k miles out of it with out any problems I would be surprised.

What I like about the Champion product is that they are by far the easiest to install and have great directions on line and good tech support! I'm not making this up as I talk to and know 3 installers out east plus I'm a hot rod'r and own a few tools myself

Have you thought about one of those bolt on kits like Voyager, TowPac, Ghost Wheels, etc??

You'll save thousands of $$$$$$$ and still be able to ride on 2 wheels if you want to.

Dave, Randy (Bazooka) is only about a days ride from you. Great guy and has been in this business a long time. Also he is the owner/creator of this forum. Take my word CALL HIM.

Just some thoughts. Sometimes the big dollar sign rears its head and barks. I'm assuming your '93 is stock. Remember, you are adding several hundred pounds weight to the stock bike, and really screwing with the gearing. What I'm saying is you will have a trike that will have trouble getting out of its own way. Todays Harley's are 103 cubic inches and people on this forum, and others are bitching about no power. Yours is an 88 inch 5 speed. I realize not everyone has $35,000 laying around for a toy, just remember the power issues.

Good Luck!

I have used Ghost Wheels for 24k miles, and I love them they add only 64 pounds, and I get to ride a 2 wheeler and trike!

Not sure about the 93/80 inch. I have an 05 Ultra/Lehman with the 88 and always ride two up. The power is fine for us. This Lehman is a lot heavier than the Triglide. Recently had the body off to have some painting done. When the paint guy and I were carrying the body into his shop he said it was a lot heavier than the Harley body. The main thing is to take your time. It's a good idea to order the installation manual before you buy a kit and see if it sounds doable for you. Someone said that you could go online and check out the instructions, that's even better. Good luck.

I converted my 1991 FLT to a trike with Frankenstein kit (about $6,500 in parts including changing triple tree). I have stock motor in good condition with 68,000 miles and have had no problems riding two up, since (to the best of my memory) 1993 and back already has the lower gearing owners of later model trikes are switching too. In addition, my kit does not have a heavy body, just fenders and fender brackets. Be sure and change out triple trees. Contact manufacturer before purchase and ask if they will furnish you with list of rear end parts that wear out (bearings, gears, etc) and if they are available through local sources (Ford dealer, Auto Zone, etc). I would not buy from manufacturer that will not supply part numbers or tells you that parts have to be purchased through manufacturer. This won't help you when broke down on highway.

My wifes 05 RK Motor Trike conversion started out with the 88 CI way underpowered dropped in an S&S 111 and it's fine now. I just bought an 02 EGC with the Motor Trike conversion it has a 95" kit with Screamin Eagle heads and 211 cams and it borders on being underpowered. I will ride it through the summer and decide. We do not ride 2 up either. I can't imagine a stock 80 inch being enough. I guess power is in the eye of the beholder.
Just my experience,
SR

frankensteintrikes.com frankensteintrikes.com I am doing it. i looked and looked and i talked to the local dealer the other day and they are #1 my choice. they invited me to their shop to tour and they told me what to come for lunch.they are my choice, i will be converting a 2001 harley classic.

Congratulations! Frankenstein has a really good reputation for quality! I have a friend who converted his Road Glide with one, and he loves it!
