Tri Glide Rear Tire Choices Question

Quick update on the rear tires….

Just as I am ready to order the Michelin Defender T & H, I’ve just been told by 2 tire shops today that they have been discontinued. Although I can order a pair still, I’d rather not get a pair of tires that have now been discontinued by the manufacturer.

a little more research on the 205/65R15 rear tires, are still some options out there, from the General Altimax RT45, Cooper Endeavor, Toyo, Continental, among a few others….and one especially that I’m eyeing up now is the BF Goodrich Advantage Control.

Any other rear 15” tire recommendations (or pros or cons) and personal experience?

pics attached of the BF Goodrich that I’m now eyeing up:

I never thought about Goodrich tires for my Tri but it makes perfect sense if you think about it. Their tires were always a softer rubber compound which would result in a smoother ride and great traction. WIN WIN. Thanks

Yes, I have zero complaints!
I’ve put over 5K on them (only been in rain once) and very happy with them. The ride & handling has been no issues and would recommend them. 👍🏻

I have the same question on the HD forum, but I know some on here are not members there… so I will copy the same question on here. (Apologies if this is a repetitive question).

I have a 2014 Tri Glide and will be needing new rear tires. The size is: 205/65 R15 and it currently has the original Dunlop Signature. (Yes... officially 10 year old tires!)

Already have the front tire ordered, but I see a few name brand tires out there mentioned for the rear and many favor one brand over another, but curious what seems to work best for our trikes?

I can google the tire size and many choices are shown... are they all compatible for our trikes?

Or are some better suited to use, where others are not?

They are "passenger car tires" but the Dunlop seems to make it sound they're “more suitable” for a trike...???

Thanks!
have been using Goodyear for several yrs on a 16 & now my 20 TriGlide have the beads in for balance also in the front tire for balance.

There are still many choices of the rear tires (205/65 R15) as they are passenger car radial tires. Granted some have been discontinued as well, but still some choices out there.
Goodyears have always been a highly mentioned, and definitely Michelin as well.
I wanted to go a different route and went with BF Goodrich Advantage Control. (I have no complaints).

WOW! Love the rims, and the paint!

#jealous!

So I just finished putting a total of 3.2k miles on the new tires (Pirelli in front, Coopers in the rear) and I have to say I am overjoyed with the results. The two rides, a couple weeks apart, took us through several national forest areas in north and central Arizona including some really technical stuff on Hwy 89 and 89A. My Freewheeler has never ridden or handled better!

The Night Dragon simply outperformed the OEM Dunlop, and to me gives much more feedback, in a good way. The Coopers took a bit longer to feel really connected to the road, but after about 500 miles and they started to bite they gave me greater confidence to push a little harder on the twisties.

So I am very happy with a solution that not only left my trike riding better than ever, but did so at a great savings over having a Harley shop put OEM stuff back on.

One man's experience, your mileage may vary.
