Hi everyone!

I don't post much on this forum, since I still don't have a trike. When I first introduced myself, I indicated that I'm recovering from a bike accident with a knee injury and surgery in early May.

I was close to making a decision about a trike, but I stumbled upon another forum that was discussing the merits of two wheels in front (aka Spyder) vs two in back (traditional), i.e. stability, safety, reliability, etc. Some posts on that other website indicated that traditional trikes can't handle curves very well when compared to Spyder especially when payment is wet.

So, what is y'all opinion, from those who have ridden both?

Thanks, Vince.

Had a Spyder for over 3 years, Two different riding styles. The Spyder you lean your body in turns like a snowmobile/ATV. With the Tri Glide i sit upright in the turns, No pluses or minuses with either it just depends on what you prefer, I prefer the Tri Glide.
As for as handling gos the Tri Glide handel's curves as well or better then the Spyder. Mechanically the Spyder is an nightmare, When ever i went out for a ride the first thing i would think of is where were my sons and where is my trailer, so one of them could come get me. I never knew when or where it would leave me stranded. And waiting for 30 to 45 days for parts were not uncommon. I have been riding bikes for over 40 years and never have i had any bike/trike that was so unreliable, and i might add BRP the manufacturer of the spyder is not very helpful when you have a problem.

Thanks for the feedback! I checked out the forum thread. Very convincing arguments to stay away from the spyders. Looks like I'll try to get the triglide. Love the looks of the Honda, but I'm 6'4" and feel totally cramped on that frame. Triglide fits a lot better!

That's why a lot of us ride GL1500 trikes for the extra room verses the GL1800

At 6'3" and I also took off the pegs and just use the rain guard boards.

I didn't realize there was a difference in the size of the two models. Admittedly, I"m not a honda aficionado, so pardon this observation - isn't the GL1500 a much older model than the GL1800? I went to the Honda website and can't find that model. I'm more interested in new or very late model bikes.

Thanks! Vince.

Yes they stopped making the 1500 12 years ago. The value holds up because of the above mentioned fact( more room) I have a 97 1500. New or old I would trust this bike to go across country with a 3 hour notice.

My brother-in-law also has a 97 1500. He wouldn't trade or sell that bike under any circumstance. (Well,,, money does talk, lol ;))

He really loves that bike and plans to keep it for the long haul! ThumbUp

Vince,
You might watch our Cheetah video and call 812-256-9199 to schedule and come test-ride a Cheetah to experience superior cornering and handling, a smooth automatic transmission, with reverse and steering like you can't imagine. Choose from our in stock Cheetahs or have one custom-built with your choice of 4, 6 or 8 cylinder power and performance levels, and many other great options. Please visit our website via the link below and see if a Cheetah might be the best trike for you.

I'm in Florida and have seen a lot of the Spiders come and go and nobody really wants to say why !! They have them for 6-12 months and then buy something else. I have a Stallion and have been very happy with it. I sure caught alot of hell from all my Harley buddies when I first bought it, but now that you see trikes everyday on the road they have warmed up to it and their ladies love it !!!! Hopefully TMS will get the production line going again now that they have the motors and transmission again.
