Deadly Accident and Non-DOT Approved Helmet

So wait, according to the article, they were both travelling in the same direction? Does that mean that the car passed on the right and then cut left in front of the bike? Can't help but notice that they make a point of saying what kind of helmet he was wearing but don't say what the fatal injuries were. And we all know the odds of any charges being brought against the car driver are slim to none.
That all said, my condolences to the family.

They (press and readers) love the sensational motorcycle accidents.

Cage drivers runs over a motorcycle at a stop light, and the cager probably does not lose their license.
Here is an interesting story, about a Vet getting rear ended on the freeway, and the moral of the story is "I'll never ride motorcycles again."

I do not see a word about the cager.
No one expects them to feel bad, or responsible. After all, the other guy was riding a motorcycle, what did he expect.

The article should have stated Buck was traveling westbound on NC-55 as that's the only way you can turn left off NC-55 to enter Halls Creek Road.

Best to my knowledge the DOT stopped testing of helmets in the '70's due to liabity issues , all a manufactor has to do is pay a fee to register the line of product for the sticker

And there are a bunch of bogus DOT helmets around.
Some dealers are having DOT stickers made, then putting them on non-DOT helmets.
Then of course, the helmets with a DOT sticker are a lot more expensive than the helmets that have no sticker.
Anything for a buck...

Ride safe...
