Either a drunk or a texter was going south and I was going north. When we were about 100' apart they came completely in my lane. We were both doing 40mph. To avoid a head on I swerved onto the grassy roadside. It was dark. I didn't know there was a canal there. The Free went airborne, crashed into a 6' wide drainage pipe then into the canal. Water was about 3' deep. The SOB didn't even stop. My Guardian Angel was with me. I fell off the bike just before it hit the pipe and sank. Bike was in the water for 2 hours before it got pulled out. The front end kind of exploded on impact. Both forks snapped in half. The only thing holding the front of the bike together was the wires and brake lines. Gas tank, rear fender, side cover, seat, handle bar, front fender, front rim, and a lot more obliterated. Plus water damage to engine and wiring. Allstate came out today and totaled it. I have the "we'll buy you a new MC" feature on my policy. We'll see how that works! But I didn't get a scratch on me. Just a little sore from bouncing. I just lost my glasses and my shoes that fell off and landed in the water.

WOW !!!! Sorry to hear this but so glad you are OK!!! I hope you got a description of the Car. That is just a pure shame that drivers are that incoherent of their surroundings to have not seen you.:vxtyaq::AGGHH:

Hope all works out with the Insurance co. and you get a full replacement on your Free.

Again, just glad you are OK !!!! ThumbUp

Where you at in Port Charlotte??? When you get the new bike you can start riding we me on Wed nights and Sundays. Can't PM you. I was a bad boy.

I am so glad your ok....People today are so pre occupied, drunk high or distracted and it's getting worse with all these electronic gadgets that are available..

I had had a guy come halfway into my lane yesterday on a two lane canyon road in a curve. I really had know where to go but as far to the right as I could. Oh ya, then they acted like it was my fault and I was the problem as they gave me the bird or the California hello for being in the lane they just came into.

Get a a new bike, get back in the saddle and continue to ride as safe as you can..

Again, so sorry to hear about your mis fortune.

Ride Safe,
Bill G

Wow! Thank God you came out of it without a scratch. Too bad about the trike but hopefully the insurance works out and you can replace it!

Ya it sucks to lose your ride. The main thing is YOU !
Your not replaceable. Try to regroup, & good luck with insurance.

Glad to hear you came thru it without any injuries. Trikes are replaceable but humans aren't. I just hope the insurance company does honor the "new replacement" part of your policy.

thank God you are OK

Thank God You didn't get killed, hope your insurance was good. ThumbUp fearless

Rest, relax, regroup, repeat! Another reason why more people should drive with an active video device.
Spend some time shopping for your replacement trike.

Sorry to hear, but it's always good to be able to tell the story. Hope they catch the person.

Man wow and ouch..trikes were not meant to fly unless they are on the ground. So glad you are ok. I hope the injuries do not reveal themselves at a later date. Sometimes it takes a couple of days to really know how you are doing. I cracked up back in Oct. I just took my second ride today. Still in P.T. and working through it.

I seriously thought about selling my trike after the accident. I am glad I did not let my mental discomfort get the better of me. After the initial post-accident start up butterflies I was just fine. The ride home was pretty effortless.

God bless you. I hope you get yourself another trike and get back out there on the road but what ever you decide I am glad you are ok.

Glad to hear that you are okay. You definitely need to buy that Guardian Angel a beer when you see him/her again. It's a miracle!

Do you have photos of the bike?

Glad your okay. Trike can be replaced. You will feel more later

Whoa! Glad to hear you're ok, and that you had insurance to take care of the Free.

Things could have gone WAY differently.

Your experience is why I have little care for the folks riding around in cages (sorry if anyone on the forum falls in that group). I ride year round, only borrow Mary's truck every now and then, and, from my observation, the percentage of distracted drivers is nearing 100%.

WOW, so glad your ok. I'm in my 70's and had a lot of close calls but it seems to be getting worse on the roads. Bikes can be replaced....
