I'm same way...if I'm out shopping or at work (doorman at club on weekends...my post-LEO job) and I see license plate, hat, or ID showing they're active or veteran, I make it a point to thank them & shake their hand. I got out in 97, shortly before my unit got activated...probably sounds odd, but I've always had guilt for not re-upping and being there for & with my brothers, so I always try to be there for any service member now.
A good buddy's wife found this on his truck (he had Disabled Vet tags). I have a flag that I replaced, I'm thinking of doing this as well before I bring the rest of it to the Legion for disposal.....just have to bring myself to cutting the stars out (seems simple enough, but feels wrong cutting her). Buddy was touched (he carries in his wallet), his wife was in tears. I think it's a great way to let them know they are not forgotten

In the meantime, I'll still be going out and doing the mug & hugs, escorts home, flag lines, etc with my WWR brethren. Make sure our servicemen/women know there are still many of us who appreciate what they do, and are here to help when & where we can ThumbUp
