thinking about a 14 triglide

howdy everyone, I was introduced to ya'll by another forum. been thinking about getting a 14 TriGlide. I used to ride an 01 road king but had to sell it for my bad (and getting worse) back.

never been on a trike before so I've got some learning to do. will get down to my dealer and do a demo when i can. hope to meet some new friends here and maybe do some rides sometime.

welcome aboard. demo is a great way to start. triking is an acquired taste, but once you get the hang of it you will love it. ted

Acquired my 2014 in September now with 1600 miles I like it more each day. Has run perfect and even with the recalls I am very happy with my decision. Sold a 2009 TriGlide and a 2008 GW CSC put 60k on the two. Will take you a few miles to become comfortable on the trike but after 500 to 1000 miles you will wonder why people ride on two wheels. Have owned 13 Harley's, 3 goldwings, 4 Susuki's, 2 Hodakas, and a Bridgestone 50cc in 1964.

Enjoy your new ride and welcome to Trike Talk.

We also got our 14 Tri Glide in September we have 2,800 miles so far and loving it more and more with each ride.

We came from an 05 Ultra was unsure about going to 3 wheels. Have been on 2 wheels for over 25 years everyone told me of all the issues of changing over. When I pulled out of the dealer onto the main road I thought what the hell did I do? My friends told me to keep the Ultra because I would miss it. I can tell you that after getting used to it which did not take as long as I thought it would. Happy did not keep the Ultra because would not be riding it much.

Read everything on here and Internet about how to ride a trike some was very helpful some not so much. Once committed to learning it really is more fun each time you go out. Some of the things did not think much about, stop and go traffic not a problem (don't have to balance the bike), gravel and stone parking lots not an issue at all, U turns don't even think much about them anymore.

Plus the fact that the 14 is the best Harley have ever owned recalls and all. My wife loves it and it has put smile on her face every time we go out.

Go for it! I made the move from an Ultra this past May and haven't regretted it for a moment. Don't have any physical issues that required the change, but more for the removal of the "pucker factor" involved with riding 2 up. The majority of my riding is with my bride and it just makes for a more relaxing and enjoyable ride. Took a few miles to get used to the different handling characteristics but after that - WOW!pepper And of course Momma loves it as well!! As stated by another member, a test ride is a good idea, as long as it is not just a short jaunt...
Good luck with making your decision.
Cheers

seeing it is winter in most states and your riding time is very limited, if it were me and it might be i will wait for the 2015's to come out and see if there are any changes with the cooling system and the recall problems they had with the 2014's. i am not discouraging you from buying a new trike as you will love it but my money is going to be with the 2015's.

Sounds like you're really enjoying it. think you'll be out in the snow with it?

Thanks, I'm really looking forward to a test drive.

That's a very good idea! Not sure I'll be able to wait that long but it does make sense. Not too worried about snow (I'm over on the coast right across from you).

Isn't it in August when the new models come out?

find you a harley dealer that rents....... I rented a trike at mobile ala it was only 150 bucks. pick it up sat morn have it back at 8 monday morning ,,,, unlimited milage.. if you like it ? your harley rental goes toward future purchase.. that way you can give it a real test ride.......JUST SAYING i have done this on ultra limited and triglide

Well I went from my 08 Electra Glide to my Tri Glide back in 2011. Got 22,000 miles on mine now and love it. As others have said going to a trike is different but it don't take long to get used to it. I was 58 back in 11 and knew that sooner or later the 900lb EG would start to get heavy and I just couldn't see sizing down to a smaller lighter bike and I wanted the TG payer for before I am retired and on a reduced fixed income.
When I left the dealer with my TG at first I thought oh crap, what did I do but that thought faded in a very short time as I became used to the differences of a trike from a 2 wheeler.
I have run across a couple of people that bought a Tri Glide and traded if off in a very short time because they say the just couldn't get used to it. In my opinion that's just in their head. As long as one keeps an open mind and is willing to accept the differences it don't take long at all to get used to riding a trike and be comfortable on it.
I love mine and don't ever see me going back to 2 wheels.
I will say one thing about riding a trike one needs to remember is you DO NOT PUT YOUR FEET DOWN ! After 40 years of riding 2 wheelers that was a hard habit to break for me.
You really don't want to know how I learned that lesson.

So what's the big deal with getting used to the trike? Perhaps the steering maybe? An old guy told me long ago that you learn to ride what you ride. For me it's as simple as that. Not putting your feet down would be weird at first but it shouldn't take too long to get it. I'm thinking spacial awareness too with the extra width might take some time.

I think that's all it is, I still lean, just not as much as I used to, but I know all my steering is done with my arms. And remembering you're fatter than a 2 wheeler is something you gotta keep in mind.

I found the putting foot down thing and 'leaning' took about 100 miles to completey eliminate. But, I STILL watch the rear when pulling up to gas pumps, into the garage, etc. You need to keep it in mind.
My wife, however, had two back surgeries and didn't ride her bike for over two years. Finally it was sell it or trike it, so Frankenstein came into the picture. She hopped on and drove like it was all she ever had! I think the time in the two-wheel saddles make a difference?

I'll bet LOTS of guys run over a foot at least once!:D
