I thought the stock pipes on our Tri-glide sounded pretty decent, but bein' the 'gotta improve it' kinda guy I am, dumped the stock head pipes with the cat and put on Vance and Hines exhaust pipes. The new head pipes thru the stock mufflers made the exhaust very raspy and they sounded like sheit.

Since the stock mufflers on the 103" engines (with cat) get only 2 baffles instead of the 3 baffle touring mufflers of old, I thought getting rid of the cat would make the 2 chamber mufflers really "talk". Boy was I wrong.

Put on an old pair (1998) of left over 3 chamber mufflers. They made the exhaust quiter but still raspy. Anybody know how to get rid of that raspiness???????

I'm about ready to go back to (shame, shame!) the stock exhaust set up.

The stock left side muffler is baffled to let 70% of the exhaust go out the right side only, That's the cause of most of the raspey sound.

Anybody know how to get rid of that raspiness??????? Yes, FuelMoto Jackpots w/quiet baffles.

I have mentioned on here before, on several occasions, that when you remove the cat, the mufflers sound like a harley wannaabe! I have the Dyno Tuned Jack Pot slip ons. I love the sound on the TG. Deep thunder..nice but not too loud! of course I can't hear, so it may be louder than I realize..anyway I love them. I had the same slip ons, on the SG trike when we removed the cat, it sounded AWFUL! Another reason I still have the cat on the TG.

I used to have the Dyno Tuned Jack Pot mufflers w/ quiet baffles on the trike, but ended up installing the SE 4" and love them as does everybody around me.
I found that the Jack Pot's were to loud for me plus everyone around me said they were to loud. I would look in my mirrors and see that the riders that started out with me ended up falling way behind me cause of the loudness. Also no matter how hard I twisted the throttle I couldn't out run the noise.

SEAlaskan, I think you have what I'm lookin for with the SE 4"ers. Definately want the deeper sound without being loud. But I'm wondering if you have your cat in or not cause I think the cat offers a lot of muffling in itself.

Phu Cat,
I have a 2009 Tri-Glide which came catless. The SE 4" muffler (#80892-10) that I have is 50 state legal.

I also have the 4" SE mufflers on my 09 TG and love them.

The Rinehart mufflers I put on my bike were to loud and made a sharp barking sound. I wrapped the Rinehart baffles with 3/8" woodstove gasket rope, and fastened each end of the gasket rope with stainless steel wire. I now have the best sounding mufflers I have had in 50 years.

I'm with Keystone. I have the Fatshotz slip ons. I brought my TG in to have the brake adjusted(wouldn't hold)and had a chance to hear them as the tech drove off to go around the building. WOW! way more then I expected. Very deep mellow sound - no harsh sounds like Rhineharts, and they are legal according to the government sound meter.
I still have the cat and will not remove it (I'm a cheap bastard) - don't need to since so far I don't have a heat problem. It was tested at Rolling Thunder and again last weekend in Missouri in 100* temps and I didn't feel any discomfort.
I also thinks the Fatshotz are the coolest looking pipes around.:D

What year are those Rinehart pipes on? Are they the 3.5 inch muffler?

I know you guys are going to think I'm crazy but, after trying several different pipe/muffler combos without success, I purchased two automotive turbo mufflers with 12" body. Adapted the inlet diameter, welded two standoffs to mount the stock mounting bracket to and attached two 2.5" chrome turndowns on the outlet. It all mounts underneath with only the chrome extensions showing. It has a nice low rumble without all the unecessary noise. reminds me of an old muscle car.

That I've got to see and hear. Got pictures?

I was told the Rineharts would negatively affect low end torque on a TG. I went with Rush Big Louie slip ons (with a TTS Master Tune and a big sucker air cleaner). It's an '09, so there is no cat. It sounds and performs great!
