TG rear brakes

Hey Old....I like the BIG rubbers you know. They seem to work for me the best and they can be reused time after time after time. I have used the same one out of the kit for days at a time without any signs of wear, or failure. They hold up very well. I always keep a couple on hand. You never know when they may come in handy.

I was smokin' stuff back in the 60's. It was SOP around Carmel at the time.....but not lately. I can't speak for the msocko boys, but I am pretty sure Old is not high and he probably won't let #3 do it either.

10....what we are talking about is the use of a bungee-cord, strap, or something else to hold the hand, or foot brake as opposed to using, or not having, or have removed the factory parking brake. I choose to keep a couple of very big rubber-bands handy and when I need a PB....I just wrap it around the brake-lever to hold it down. Works like a charm and different folks have different methods. Butt simple....but it works and many, many, trikers use this method on either the front brake lever or the rear brake pedal.

And yes to a previous poster....there are lots of $30,000 machines running around with a rubber-band parking brake. Not me...mine did not cost $30,000. Harley (and other kit makers) choose to use a Rube Goldberg gizmo whereas....a rubber band works quite nicely thank you. (For those of you too young to remember the funny-papers on Sunday, you will just have to find out who Rube Goldberg was on your own.)

My wife (TNTriker) had her FLHXXX for a year without the parking brake attached. She left her's in low gear when she stopped. Never had a problem!
The rubber band would be some added braking.

anyone know the service bulletin number for the t/g brakes?

To th best of my knowledge there is no service bulletin for the TG brakes. There is however a statement in the 2011 Harley tech document that comes out for changes each MY about changes to the brake of the 2011 MY trikes which says the parts will retrofit. There are some who have managed to get the dealer to replace brake parts and others who strike out. If you call Harley they will tell you brakes are a wear item, which tells me the dealers who are covering brakes are doing so with their Customer satisfaction money and not warranty dollars from Harley.

whats the service bulletin number ob the t/g rear brakes?

The only service bulletins I've been able to find are,
M-1280 Trike Exhaust Mount
M-1279 2009-2010 Trike Body Replacement Parts
M-1259 2009 FLHTCUTG Trunk Door Seal Replacement
M-1241 FLHTCUTG Trunk Door Seal Product Program 0907

I have not been able to find one concerning brakes.

I have a 2012 TriGlide and I have been accused twice by our service manager that I am driving with my parking brake on. He claims they turned my rotors twice, they look like crap. I am waiting for the General Manager to get back in town. If he doesn't want to listen to me I will have to find another Harley shop that will listen to me and investigate the problem.

I spoke with the GM, he called Harley and spoke with the warranty person. Harley came out with new rotors. They have not admitted the problem but they are going to replace my rotors.

When my dealer did the engine mods on my "11 a month ago, I told 'em to take off that useless piece o crap emergency brake. They told me "no problem" and gave me all the parts in a box. Cables and all. Charged me 1 hr. I never used it and have not missed it. Parked on a fairly steep incline the other day, had no choice at the time, facing uphill. Left it in first gear, got off, pushed hard and tried to make the trike roll. It wouldnt budge. Left it parked there for 2 hours. Just remove it.

10,000 on my 2011 tri-glide, new pads and rotors.
filed a complaint with HD customer service, still waiting for a final answer.
ronglide.

Hope you have better luck than I did, they consider the brakes to be a wear item. Harley Davidson customer service isn't what it used to be, I never had to claw and scratch to get things covered in the past like I did with my Triglide. But then I've never had the problems with my past bikes as I've had with this Triglide.

The pads on my 2011 are really thin at 6500 miles. Does anyone know the part number for 2011 pads and the lindell pads for same year. I saw 2011 was different from '09 and '10. Thanks

i'm replaceing my stock brakes on '09 t/g with p/m stage 1, in the rear and duals in the front. search '09 t/g install p/m stage 1 & you'll see my write-up on the progress. sometiimes you can save on e-bay. i paid 800.00 for the stage1, and a dealer pays 1k for the same stage1.

also did a baker plus 1 oil pan. overall you get 4 1/2 qts of oil and the belt rubs the
baker oil pan so i suggest you give it a good 1" beltsanding BEFORE you install the oil pan.
just talking as it too d mn cold to ride.

Changed the rear pads on my '09 at the 20,000 mile service. Dealer said I had some time left on them, but we were going on a long trip so I did it anyway. My guess is that since people don't have to put their food down anymore, they are tending to use the rear break pedal a lot more then they did with 2 wheels. Book says 70 / 30 front breaking.

Just my opinion

Your wife's name is Vesta. My aunt's name was Vesta---she was named after my maternal grandfather, whos name was Vesty (He ran a combination bar/poker game/domino parlor in Denison Texas in the 1930's-1940's. My uncle was his bartender, and his best friend was shot to death by a disgruntled gambler who came in looking for Vesty). A rather macabre story, but the name is so unusual that I have to ask the origins of your wife's name. I'm sure that is much more uplifting.

PM gives a nice discount direct to TrikeTalk members. No need to go to E-Bay. Great people to deal with. Using the PM rear master cyclinder on my conversion and the brakes are outstanding when they were onlt so-so before.

It never dawned on me until just now when you posted that the belt was rubbing your Baker oil pan, they list the Plus 1 pan as only fitting the 1993-2008 FLH. I'd bet a 2009 2 wheeler with the Plus 1 pan would have issues with the belt hitting also. I didn't see any place on their site where they come out with a pan for the 09 and later FLH.

Looks like they dont list the Plus 1 oil pan on all there links. But I did find the link for 2009 up. I am not sure if it includes the Tri Glides?? Maybe they just tested on the FLH two wheelers and not the Trikes.. Are the frames on the FLH 2 wheel bikes the same as the trikes?? I really dont think so but I am not sure..

Wife was named after her Aunt Vesta. The name comes from the Roman goddess Vesta, goddess of the hearth and home. Greek mythology it was Hesta, same goddess. Funny coincident, Wife works for AT&T. She got a call shortly after she was promoted from another Vesta Brown working in Texas. What are the odds of that!

I just heard Harley now has a Service Bulletin out on the Tri-Glides rear brakes, but the won't tell unless the customer complains. They are replaceing the rotors with a new type compound rotor and pads. (Check it out)

That figures! Just swapped out rotors & pads on friends TG last weekend. Thanks for heads up on this. Have more friends who have TGs.

Much more enriching than my story! I have some real rougues in my ancestry. Rumor has it that some of them were lawmen in Tennessee in the 19th century, and fled to Texas after lynching someone.

PS I am really a nice guy---my 5 grandkids love me.

PS2 I have my Victory Jackpot---It is awesome. all that power, and nimble enough to thread a needle!
