When I bought my T/G about 30 days ago I also bought a battery tender,
name: super smart battery tender, genuine Harley Davidson accessories,[made in China], The weather here has been to cold for me to ride so I hooked up the batt. tender last week, I checked it today and found that about half way between the tender and the batt. that about 3in's of the wire had melted and the instillation burnt to a crisp, but the green light was still on, so I guess it was still charging:Shrug:.

I took it back to the dealer and they said they have never seen one do that and replaced it, no problem, but now I don't know if I want to use one or not:Shrug:, any comments from you folks that have used them over the years ?

I'm not trying to bad mouth the product, I may have got the only bad one out there. just thought you Guys and Gals might want to check yours out if you use them.

wondering if the wires to the battery were installed correctly. The green light means charged. Another thought is a bad connection to cause melting.

I have used them for several years without any trouble, my trike, ultrs classic, low rider, John Deere mower, and four wheeler, all in garage and shed, plugged in.

take the t/g seat off & trace the wires to the battery. the wire goint to the positive side of the battery has a fuse holder in it .(in-line)Pos side is clearly marked.
also check to see if the battery has leaked.i recomment takeing the battery completely out & have it load tested. & charged while removed from the trike.

I've used the Deltran brand of battery tenders for years with no issue, right now there are 2 bikes, a trike and and 2 tractors setting in the garages with them on.

Like anything else you can get a bad one every now and then. I had a BMW brand battery tender (made by Deltran) that gave up the ghost and it was less than 2 years old. The dealer shipped it back and it was repaired. The repaired model is still in use with no issues on the Beemer... the TG is hooked up on a battery tender plus.

Ditto most above. I have 3 going at the California House for the trikes and a 2 wheeler. 5 at the Arizona house for the boats and off road bikes. All of mine are Schumacher brand bought at Wal Mart. They are supposed to be automatic, but you do have to check the acid level occasionally.

Good Luck!
