Stop That Slipping Clutch

I put an AIM VPC 010-001 in my 03 HD VROD trike and to be perfectly honest I don,t feel any difference in the clutch or the levers. It may be the hydraulic setup or something else. I did bleed the clutch hydraulics . I never had a slipping problem but the clutch lever is hard to pull. I also hear the bugger turning sometime. I did not put in any extra washers when I installed the VPC. interesting concept though. curley.

Which VPC did you install?

I put a VPC in years ago, no slippage, no problem. I recently put in a new SE HD Clutch. No slippage, it will actually bring the front wheel up if you pop it. I did have a clutch noise problem that was driving me nuts since the VPC. A chirp on gear change that got louder with heat.I checked the AIM site and founded that they now have a spacer and gasket for the derby cover, and I just got it installed. Appeared to solve the problem. This is a good product for Trikes with the increased pressure on the clutch. Mine is on a 1995 FLH 1340 Champion kit , 55k miles.

I may have a spare on hand if somebody wants a bargain. It's a 70, which affords the least effort. I have ran it on my pumped-up Stage II under an SE spring with no issues at all on a heavy trike.....trailer and all.

PM if you are interested.

I have a 70T for sale over in the classifieds. 98 and up Big Twin Harley only. This one offers the most (40%) reduction in pull and has worked just fine over a Stage II Screamn' Eagle spring on a heavy trike.

Have read this thread with a great deal of interest. As I have a problem with pull on the clutch, due to breaking my thumb in the accident I think this could be the answer.ThumbUp:Excited:
Could ultraboy just confirm for me that I have the right part number? I am going with VP014-84T
I have a 2011 Ultra Classic Electra glide with Motortrike kit, and have the factory spring.
Would you be interested in shipping one to Australia???

I am sure you can even run the 70 over any spring and get the full benefit of 40% reduction. It may change you "launch" rpm's a bit to engage the clutch, but all of them lock-up above 2,000 RPM. I don't think you would have any slippage issues with the 70, but you can get the 84 if you want to be on the safe side. It offers....like a 20% reduction in pull effort.

My Aim VPC is going bad after a little over 12,000 miles.
I heard of others having problems with the VPC so yesterday I removed mine and sure enough there was what I consider unacceptable wear. This had caused me no problems to date but I am sure they would have been soon in coming. I replaced the stock componets and am waiting for delivery of the new ClutchWiz from tglidestuff.com

In the two pics the white pencil points to grooves worn into their spring plate by the fingers, the brown one points to wear on the steel bead on the back side of the VPC , mine was not too bad yet. I also found that behind the clutch spring plate it was packed with fine metal dust, a lot of it, this was from being spun off by centrifugual force and trapped which is why I didnt notice anything when I changed the primary oil at 10,000 miles.

You cant see this wear unless you remove the VPC which is easy, just take off the Derby cover like you would for clutch adjustment and remove the six allen bolts holding the VPC on.

Is there actually a groove worn into the wear plate and the steel disk of the VPC, or has just the anodizing just worn off on the steel disk? I had around 15,000 on the 84T I removed from my Triglide and 30,000 mile on the 83T I removed from my 06 Ultra before I installed the new clutch with the 92T on top.

Mike , the spring plate ,(white pencil) had definite groves on each finger you can feel with your fingernail, The bead on the back (brown pencil) is wearing flat, no longer rounded and would guesstimate 20 to 30 thousants down , this is where all the metal dust came from.
When I removed the VPC the clutch spring dropped down, thats when I saw what looked like another ring of metal on the pressure plate radiating out about 1/8 to 3/16 of an inch, when I touched it I found it was fine metal dust about 1/32 inch thick all the way around. I didnt think of taking a pic at the time or saving what I took off, this all came from the bead which is wearing flat on the VPC. Its was suprising to see that much there and only a trace on the drain plug magnet.
I didnt notice any other damage or wear but as soon as the ClutchWiz gets here I am going to pull the primary cover and clutch pack for a good inspection and cleaning.

For kicks, do the same inspection when you have some miles on the clutch with the ClutchWiz installed. I don't doubt the VPC has worn, I just think some of the sludge you found is from the wear of the clutch frictions which has some metallic particles in it . For kicks I'm going to have to inspect both my VP84T and the VP83T I used to run on my 06 Ultra. The VP83T had an aluminum hub instead of the steel one they are using on the 84T.

Mike , I was running the Aim70 vpc.
Im going to open up 3 of my other bikes and will look for the "sludge" on them. They have the stock setup .
Anyone else with experence with Aim VPC please chime in here .

Opened up 2 other bikes to day , around 9,000 and 12,000 miles, both with stock clutch setup, Found no crud build up behind either clutch spring, were both basically clean. So I have to assume all the stuff, (metal dust,) in the TG was from the VPC

Mr wizard or VT, I just bought a clutch wiz, and am reading about the aim. Will it work with the clutch wiz., or is the clutch wiz part of the mod? Thanks...

The AIM VPC won't work with the Clutch Wiz, the CW takes the place of the VPC.

ultra boy, I have a 2007 flhtc , converted to trike with a stock 96" motor. just had my clutch replaced at HD dealer about a month ago. I am not sure what they installed but it seems to be working fine but I would like to be sure down the road that it will not slip or worse. I am planning on changing my tranny sprocket to a 30 tooth and I am not sure that will make a difference as to which vpc I should install. please advise and I will order one from you guys right away.. thanks a lot Dan

Switch your spring to the 480 lb AIM and Clutchwiz cheaper and have a much easier clutch pull. You can read more about the Clutchwiz here if oyu haven't already.

msocko3, if I just replace the spring for now would that prevent any chances of clutch slipping until I can get back home to Fl. in about 6 weeks from now? I just had a clutch replaced by a HD dealer in Pa. but I do not know if it was a heavier clutch than stock or what and also don't know what size spring they put in, I do know they replaced it with a Harley clutch. I don't have any problems with it now and it seems fine but I like the idea of no slippage or burning out another clutch while I ride it up here in Pa. in the mountains. what do you think?

If you put just the spring on your won't have any problems, only thing is you may not like the clutch pull as it will be quite a bit harder than stock.

I didn't understand how you put 20% pressure on clutch in traffic, anyway most of us face this problem but i didn't find any solution for this slipping.
