Stop That Slipping Clutch

I got my VPC yesterday, but seem to have a problem. The package has the 84T checked off. Have you all checked to make sure you have the right clutch?

I guess I need to see how I can resolve this>

Thanks,
Joan

Joan... I went to the garage this morning... I didn't even think to check the number I was so excited but you are right.. My package is checked to be the 84T as well. But my VPC is black which indicated the 84S model per the site if they still are separated by colors.

My pull feels good compared to what it used to be by far. Went to the SE Fatboy and and tested my pull.. it is a heavier pull than what I have on the trike but not much. I went to Carol's Deluxe... very light and much lighter than the trike. I can pull hers with my little finger but it has always been a featherweight clutch pull since new.

The 84T doesn't give the same relief as the 70T per their site advertisements. Did anyone else get the wrong one?

Look on the VPC, not the package, and see if there's a part number on it. I would but I would have to take mine apart to look.

Mine is stamped with a big 84 on it and it is black.

joan

OK

The 84T is working on my trike but if the pull can be reduced even more then Carol wanted to learn how to ride it... hummmm

I have no idea if UB is back or not... all I can do is send him a PM or email from the site. Let me see if he will respond and tell us what to do.

No good deed goes unpunished Dave...

Thanks for the explanation and I enjoyed our conversation.

For everyone else... I'm hard headed and it took him a long time for him to convince me. I do now agree with UB's conclusion.. if you have the stock spring you will be fine.

Somewhere back in this thread I mentioned that I actually sought something to help my clutch-lift. My stock HD hydraulic clutch would just barely provide the minimal .065 lift required over the SE spring I had in ths 95-inch motor. The 84 was recomended to me by AIM for my setup with the SE spring, but I sprung for the 70 as I wanted to be sure and get the lift. I did and actually got .075 and it all works just fine. Ultraboy, having installed hundreds of these things, has surely got to know what he is talking about. The risk-at-hand with the 70 in these 103 motors could very well be the possibility of slippage, and I mean slippage at pull-away with a stock spring. I think it would still lock-up and not slip at speed. I am sure the 84 over your stock spring is going to feel like my 70 over my SE spring and I think you will be very happy.

Folks...it all just a matter of spring...sprang...sprung and there are numerous matches and ways you can achieve the same thing. Reksul seems satisfied with his 84 over his SE spring and you folks with the stock springs will be even happier.

Stick them suckers in!

VT.. isn't it fun being an engineer? We are trained to question everything and it can be a royal pain in the arse, can't it my friend.

To summarize.. "Stick them in" .. that's a good call.

If anyone needs assistance while installing them, send me a PM and I'll be happy to give you my phone number. It is really easy.

I'm satisfied, I'm done, you will be too. Thanks again guys.

Finally got around to putting mine on today. Straight forward install. About 10% lighter pull on the lever, (that was not my requirement) great feel of lock-up of the clutch pack. I got the feeling that I could not slip it if I really tried. I didn't because I try not to tear up my equipment. Bottom line I like it Thanks to all especially Dave for being the supplyer. Ted

OK i am in also, lost use of my clutch index finger running it through the bandsaw in the gunshop. i could appreciate a lot less clutch lever weight.
after reading the thread i will go with the 70t.
tell me where to send the dough.
Regards, Roger

rog....this is a pretty "dated" thread and I think that offer where all the folks had Ultraboy obtain them may have been a one-time deal....not sure and maybe Dave (Ultraboy) has one he will sell you at a good price. I would suggest dropping Ultraboy a PM and see if he can offer anything.

The only other option I know of is to order it straight from AIM. I just purchased one for an EVO buddy of mine. Just get on line and Google-up "aim-tamachi" and you will find the website. You can order and pay right off their website. I am still well pleased with mine and am running the 70T as well, but over an SE spring, which may be close to an 84T over a stock spring. The 70T offers the greatest degree of relief. If you don't get too aggressive, I am sure the 70T will work for you.

B.....this should prove that not everything some old man may tell you is BS.....sometimes....we get it right. Next time we tell you to do something....get on with it.

ALL IN FUN LADY....Merry Christmas!

I think it is a matter of your personal choice and how you ride. I believe most of the folks are using the 80-series for fear of possible clutch slippage. It depends on the diaphragm spring. I run a 70 over an SE spring in a kitted Ultra with a Stage II build and do not have any issues at all. If you run the stock spring...the 80-series may be the better choice.

It seems that AIM has re-vamped their web page and I do not even see the 70, and 80-series offerings...only the 92 kit version that includes a spring, which you don't need. Maybe Ultraboy has some insight on this and may even have an 80-series on the shelf. You may have to contact AIM Corp. and find out if they still offer the 70 and 80-series. I am sure they probably do, but I do not see them listed on their website.

Bandit....I went back and took a closer look at the AIM website and found a little window in the upper right-hand side of the VPC page for 98 and newer big twins and found the spot from which you can order the 70, 84 or the 92. So....yes you can still order the individual devices and like I have previously noted...most of the TG riders have purchased the 84T. I run the 70T, but I have a stronger spring.

I'm running a 84T on top of a SE spring and my clutch pull is much easier than it was when stock. I also run a 83T which the 84 T replaced on top of a SE spring on my 06 Ultra and it also pulls very easy.

I recently installed one in an EVO dresser for a Motorman buddy of mine and had previously installed a hydraulic clutch for him. The hydraulic clutch helped him a little, but he still had hand problems.

He stays on a stock Cop-Bike all day long and when he gets on his personal ride now, he doesn't think he has a clutch with the VPC installed. He says it feels like something is broken....it's that easy to pull.

I don't know how many VPC's those people have sold, but I wish I had invented it!

After reading the info on the website, it says the installation takes a "special tool". I have an '05 Ultra, any idea what "special tool" I may need?

I've put several in gonzo and the only special tool I needed was a few extra fingers to hold the assembly together so I could tighten it all up.

:Agree:, I've done a few all have been a snap. Nice thing is you can install it right through the derby hole.

Gonzo....the pre-98 models require the use of the clutch spring release tool to remove and install a new spring and the VPC. The outer primary has to come off too. 98 and newer is a snap!

I hate to keep leaning on Ultraboy, but if he has any on his shelf....he may can get you one at a better price than what is advertised on the AIM website.
