Sticky Cruise Control Switch

Well, I finally did it! I went out and brought a 1995 GL1500 SE. Being a 19 year old biker it does have a few little gotchas that I need to deal with and that ios okay. She is a beauty and I cannot hardly wait to get it out of the trailer and ride it. Been cold as the Blitsen and snow now! So here is my dilemma. The cruise control switchen is sticky and will not engage very easy. I remember a thread on here once about sticky switches and contact cleaner bit I am unable to search it out. I would be greatly appreciative to any and all suggestions as to what to do, how to do it and the right stuff to do it with!

Stop sneezing on those switches, I believe it was just two or three weeks ago you stuck the one on the new trike... a was thinking about the hammer effect!!! Maybe you had Cookie Dough on your hands?

Most of us are too cheap or like you don't have a RadioShack close so we use WD40 or spray silicone lube. I prefer the silicone because it does not attract dirt and dust once dry.

Like Wheels said - cover up all the plastic just to be sure and flood the dickens out of the switch area while working it. I don't have any GL1500 experience so I don't know how the switches are designed. With the GL1800 ones the actual switch is way back in there so it takes a lot to get lube/cleaner to the problem.

Any electrical parts store sells an electrical contact cleaner, your trying to clean up a sticky situation, not make one... FYI


Even my Auto Zone & O' Rileys auto parts store / over by the brake fluids, ethers, starting fluids...area

I agree that we don't want sticky but there must be some lube quality as well. Most contact cleaners do not have much if any lube. Spray silicone breaks down the gummed up old grease and keeps things working as designed. :xszpv::xszpv:
