Shift Linkage

I was wondering if anyone has ever had the problem I am experiencing. My trike has stock shifting linkage from front to back. For some reason it has become very difficult to shift. The shift plate and the clutch are adjusted correctly. The shift rod seems to be free. There is no grinding, it just takes a lot of force on the shift lever to move it, it's like something is binding. Any ideas? Thanks.

Check the bushing on the rod under the shifter.
Check the joint from rod to hockey stick st the trans.
Slack in them makes things difficult.

The old gl4 oil these take can be very stiff when cold.

I found the culprit. This is the bushing and seal that fits on the end of the nosecone, it slides over the shift rod. For some reason it was binding, I suspect the seal had become hardened and had somehow shrunk. I removed the bushing and seal and the transmission shifts as it should. I bought all new parts to rebuild the shifter assembly since it's apart. The split bushing goes inside the nosecone so I won't be installing that.
