Riding Comfort

I recently purchased a 2016 Harley TriGlide after trading in my 2003 Ultra Classic.
My knees were getting weak and I felt a little unstable on y 2 wheeler.

My problem is now with my back !!! I cant believe how much I get shaken from left to right when going over bumps on my trike. The jolt on the trike sends a sharp pain into my spine. I was wondering if anybody knew of a way to reduce this hard twisting shake when riding over bumps ? I have already lowered my shock preasure to 10lbs in an attempt to soften things up a bit.

Please help, before my next purchase is a wheelchair :)

Welcome to Trike-Talk....
10 lbs is too low your shocks will bottom out with a sharp rap when you hit a pothole.... Other than that i can't help you. There are some things that you can do to soften the ride, Like 23 lbs in the rear tires , DK'S comfort lift, I keep 35/40 lbs in the shocks [i ride solo and I'm about 200lbs] But that said the ride over the bumps is ' Being polite ''Harsh''..
With 3 wheels on the ground you can't miss most bumps like you can with a two wheeler.. PS' When you are checking the air in the shocks i hope your using a 'No loss air pump/gauge.

Not being a smarty here, trying to help.
The ride you're experiencing has to do with the short wheelbase, solid axle design of your trike.
One of the smoothest on the road is the extended wheel base, independent suspension design of the Hannigan conversion!
I suggest you test ride one to feel what I'm talking about.
They are made for several brand bikes, including HD's.
IMHO, the ultimate smoothness is having a GoldWing 1800 w/a Hannigan conversion.
Having said all that, check this out for converting your TriGlide to IRS:

Welcome to TT!ThumbUp

Like rhino2 said you need to add more air to your rear shocks. I run 25 psi. as little as a 2 psi change can make a big difference in the ride. Play around with it a bit and you should find your own sweet spot.

I would bet that the rear tires are over inflated as previously stated 22 to 24 lbs in the rear. With the shocks at 10 lbs you have added to the problem. As stated add a couple of lbs and go test ride. Keeping doing it until the ride is the best for you. Welcome aboard.

You will never make the ride as smooth as the longer wheelbase IRS trikes but you can get it where you will be comfortable on it. I've got over 120k miles on the TRI glides riding and I like the ride on mine. I have a body lift kit and coil over shocks. Go to DK products one of our sponsors and look at the lifts and shocks. They do make a bid difference. Call Kevin one of the owners and he will gladly speak with you about your issues.

Good luck and ride safe

Upgrade rear shocks and suspension

Check with Kevin at DK Customs (a forum sponsor). He has done extensive testing on both the front and more importantly the rear suspension of "your" Triglide. Also check out his thread on his Project Triglide. He's done all the hard work for us and has ALL the answers.;);)
