Wondering out loud here.....

Since it doesn't look like an upgrade to a Wing or TriGlide is in my future anytime soon, I wonder if it's possible to add reverse to a Suzuki C50/Lehman trike? Not an absolute "necessity", but it'd sure make things easier at times!! I'm also thinking about having it raked, and changing to a more comfortable seat.

Advice welcome!!

I can't tell you anything about the reverse gear, but if your seat is uncomfortable, you might try a gel seat pad before spending the big bucks on a new seat. The seat on my Honda VTX looks comfortable, but after about 40 miles, well, let's just say that looks can be deceiving. I'd like to have a snappy new gel saddle, but until I can afford that, I've been using a gel seat pad that the Chief got last year for his ride from FL to Milwaukee. This pad SURE makes a difference!

OTOH, some of those upgraded saddles include a backrest--now THAT would be nice to have.

Hi again, Cheri,

You already know I highly recommend the rake for ease of steering. I don't have reverse on my trike although it is the one thing that I will eventually add. Like you, I can see that it would be something that would be a plus. But for now, I find I have no trouble with moving the trike around manually as long as I am aware of where I park it!

As far as the seat goes, you can also try one of those sheepskin hides. You can get them from the Amish at a pretty reasonable price, and cut it to match your seat. Thats if you have a Amish community around you.

We got a sheepskin at Ikea for $35, a slightly smaller one is $25. The smaller one was cut in 2 pieces, one for the backrest of the stock GW seat and the other piece for the front seat ofthe Harley. The larger skin fits both the front and passenger seat, though we did later cut it so if one wanted totake it off both wouldn't have to do without. Also had a gell pad to put under the sheepskin, just for a change on longer trips. Alone, it felt like sitting on a slab of meat.

This mostly became a moot point when we got the Diamond seat on the 'Wing. Still use the skin on the Harley.

Thanks all! I have been considering the sheepskin pad, as much for the temperature regulation as the comfort (nothing worse than damp pants from sweating during the summer - yuck!!!). I've also considered a gel pad. A new seat isn't in the budget just now, so I'll probably be trying one or both of these options this season.

Ultraboy, thanks for contacting Lehman!! The few times I've tried (different issues) I've had little luck getting a response - maybe just bad timing? At any rate, I know there's a company that makes a reverse - Champion, I think? - that's been added to Harleys and other trikes, and was wondering if anyone had added it to the Suzuki. Since mine's a 5 speed and the others I've seen added were 6 speed, I wasn't sure if that was the deciding factor or just a coincidence. Guess I'll just have to keep researching - I'll probably contact Champion myself. Again, thanks for your help!!
