Picked up a piece of road debris in my rear tire, tires have 13,000 miles on them.Would you feel confident having a repair boot put in the tire or would you just replace it.

I wouldn't have a problem if by boot you mean a patch on the inside and just to be safe put some tire sealer in it also....,I once went 8 thousand miles with a plugged on rear tire that had only 6 hundred miles on it when i plunged it ' Never leaked But i did use sealer in the tire also..... [Honda VTX1800]...

Is it leaking air? I would feel confident with a boot if it is in the tread, not the sidewall. With a boot you will need to have the wheel rebalanced or use Dyna Beads.

A plug patch will be fine as long as the tire is prepped properly

We used a Steelman plug patch, this filled the hole to protect the integrity of the tire carcass and covered the interior of the affected tire

No other sealer was ever needed, this became a trusted permanent approved repair

Think I’d have a reputable tire shop look at it. Without seeing the damage it’s hard to determine what’s safe. :wave4:

It is really up to you what you want to do and still feel safe, basically it is a car tire and putting a patch on it works for car tires I don't know why it wouldn't for the rear of trike also, as for plugs, it would have to be a good plug and who installs it knows what they are doing, some don't. Another you said road debris, how big a hole in it would be the determining factor for me I guess.

All for now Trampas

Removed the tire today and the cut was in the center of the tire it was about 3/4 of an inch long. When i pulled the piece out last night the tire went flat in about 10 seconds lol,so i just got back from having a new tire installed.I looked all over for the piece today and have no clue what i did with it,trash ran today.Just think of a tennis ball cut in half with a long straight shank sticking up.Well needless to say it make the trike bounce like all get out,was less then a half mile from the house so i limped it home. Was heavy walled like a bearing race maybe out of a half shaft for a front wheel drive car.
