Since the Avon trike tire is getting so hard to find.

FedEx just dropped off a Dunlop American Elite rear tire.
Will be taking the wheel into a local indy to have it mounted next week.
I talked to them last week and they had no problem with it.

Some places will and some will refuse. I've had it both ways. And then I had one place that insisted on it being mounted in reverse. If one place won't do it the way you want, just try another.

Glad to hear that more and more guys are trying this. As I have mentioned several times, I have been doing this on my trikes since the mid 1990s.

My results have been great so far. When Avon came out with their trike tire, I tried it. So far, I have over 10K on that tire and all is well. Still, as others have said, it is increasingly difficult to fine the Avon.

So, when I am ready, I suspect I will go back to the BT46 (Rear) - Reversed'

Please keep us updated on your performance.

I did mine two years ago before our four corner trip. Used the Dunlop American Elite also. So far with close to 20K on it, no complaints. Still has plenty of tread left.
I was getting 20K on 2 of the 3 Avon tires. The third I hit a deer, and the fender ate the tire.
The original stock Dunlop barely made 12K and The Commander III that I put on last has 14K on it but is getting thin.

Only time and miles will tell this round.

I did that for mine and initial impressions are that I was going to get a lot more miles on the front. No handling difference and I feel I had better traction due to the slight increase in rubber contact with the road.

Has to do with the way the bias is overlaid. Rear tires have the most torque on them when accelerating. The torque on the front come from braking, so turning a rear tire around when putting it on the front matches it to the most torque.
You are exactly right on this sir.

There are other threads on this - and even DK has a video that does a great job in explaining this. I have been doing this on my trikes since the mid 1990s.

Going to go with the BT46 when I need a new tire. Only have about 10K on my current tire -so, I can probably get another 10 before I need to change.

Just had my 20K maintenance before putting the bike up, so, the timing should be just about right

I have been checking out vendors onthe web trying to find 130/60-19 rear tires. Plenty of 17" and 18" rear tires, but no 19"...
