Rake Kit or Heli Bars

I have a Motor Trike, (short wheelbase), steering is fine except in tight curves. I want to get the Helibars and a rake kit, but can only find money for one at this time.

Those of you who have both, if you could only get one which would you choose?

New adjustable handlebars for the wing and other bikes .... Very expensive .....I had them on a Kawasaki Concours. I have never heard anyone say they were sorry they put them on.

Rake kit comes first.... you can also just use MBL Risers to get the bars at a better angle.... Heli Bars seem like a waste on my trike after adding the risers. Had Heli Bars on my ST1100 so I could set up straighter..... the risers do that well enough with the change in rake kit angle.... Just FYI

Definately the rake kit. The Heli bars are nice but they wont do what a rake kit will.

Yes, another vote for the rake kit and MLB handlebar risers. Had both on my '06 and put them on the new '15 as part of the conversion.

Rake it. Helibars are nice, but do you really need to spend $800 so you can adjust the wrist angle? A riser kit is fine.

I agree rake it first is the best step.

With that being said the Heli Bars are great especially for those of us with arthritis in our wrists. I could not ride for more then a 1/2 hr before my wrists started hurting and I was always shacking my hands out. The Heli-Bars eliminated that. I've had them on 2 trikes now for all most 6 years and would not take be able to ride without them for any length of time.

Yes rake it first, then modify the handlebars after. After my Trike being raked during conversion, hands would still go numb. Installed 2 inch riser/setback that made it more comfortable to ride but hands still went numb.
On the BMW would have to hold elbows against ribs to have wrists straight because of the angle of the handgrips. I doubt the angle would be as severe on a gold wing being a touring bike to begin with, but the K1600 is more of a sport/tourer and I had to lessen the angle. Removed the riser/setback and installed HeliBars. About the same setback maybe one inch less, and no more numbness. Well worth the $600 plus. Every person being different, and motorcycle models being different as well, HeliBars would be a great benefit to some and no improvement at all to others. One thing I can say is they are very well made and came with very good instuctions.

How do I determine what degree ez steer to get for my newly completed trike build?

You have a short wheelbase trike on a GL1500 so the 4.5 degree is what you need to go with.

ThumbUp The 6degree rake kits are best suited to the extended wheel base conversions.
I tried a 6 on a short wheel base conversion and for me it was way to "twitchy"!!

I would have thought the farther you move the wheel forward the less responsive it would be.

I have the Show Chrome ones and they help a great deal. Later, I might get the Heli Bars so I can bring them closer and adjust the wrist angle.

The Heli Bars are real pricey but man are they nice. You can adjust them to an exact custom fit. Those that have bought them love them.
