My radio has worked without fault for 4 months, then all of the sudden this problem starts. It is on a 2013 TG with Harley's GPS interface wiring kit.

The radio will be playing fine then I have no sound. No GPS directions, no AM/FM, no XM, no CD, nothing. If I turn the radio off and wait about 2 minutes then turn it back on the sound will come back on for 2 minutes up to 10 minutes. There are times it takes waiting 5 to 10 minutes with the radio off before it will play.

This morning it would not come on when I turned the bike's switch on, but eventually came on after about 15 minutes into the ride. Just a note: when the sound goes off, if I don't turn the radio off then back on, the sound never comes back on. The display on the radio looks as if nothing is wrong, IE: looks like the CD is playing and the XM is showing the song and artist.

Just was curious if anyone had experienced this issue, both dealers in my area have not heard of this happening with anyone else.

1st thing I'd do is disconnect the NIM. It works by sensing an initiation pulse from the GPS, which mutes all but the GPS prompts. If the GPS is not in the cradle, and the NIM incorrectly senses an input, it will mute everything exactly like you describe.

Same issue with my '10 TG radio. No GPS. For longest time I would just flip speaker switch back and forth to get sound back. HD just replaced that switch thinking that was problem. It was not. Before going into hospital, I was supposed to stop by them a couple days ago to have radio removed and sent in for extended warranty repair. Sometimes HD dealers have spare radios on hand to swap out.

On my fourth radio. Some have went a little at a time, some have just quit. Took triglide in for service the radio was just fine. Got about three miles down the rode and the radio lost communications, then CB, then the music stopped. Turned around and went back to the dealer. They took a radio out of a new bike and put it in mine and I was on my way.

Had the same problems with my 2010 Glide conversion. Sent it off to Iron Cross Audio a couple of days ago. Reading their website and hearing about them on several forums I have high hopes in getting back a better product.

Had gps cut out music for extended mins. Then right front speaker cutting out. Had skinned insulation, and a plug was partially pulled out from either the radio or the interface, can't remember.

Sounds pretty much like what was going on with mine, right from day 1. After much messing around, they finally ordered me a brand new one. I only have about 6 hrs on it since its too cold to ride now. So far, so good.

After sporadic performance for 3 days last week, when I get to the dealership you could not make the radio malfunction.

They are going to replace it with a new one. In talking with a salesman, I learned that I was not the only one with this issue. He said that several people have had the same problem, (radio display will function, but no sound).

Don't know where he got his information, but said that there was some connection in the radio that was not making good contact and this was the result when the radio got warm/hot. This could be true, maybe 3500 miles of vibration just pushed it over the edge.

New radio should be in next week.

Thanks for all the comments...

Conclusion

New radio arrived, took the mechanic about 30 minutes to swap out. I ask them to adjust the clutch and when road testing he found that I had warped front rotors. Thought this was strange since I rarely use front break, anyway, all was covered under warranty.

So I guess I'm good to go.

My radio on my '13 (2689 miles) has started cutting while I'm riding. Noticed yesterday that when it cutout that the CB indicator light on the bottom of the radio display was lite. I turned off my CB/communication and it hasn't happened since.

Talked to the service guy and he thinks it's a bad 'push to talk' switch. Taking it in Monday for a look see.

Texan I bet the CB was breaking squelch and the CB volume is turned down so you dont hear anything. Do you have the speaker switch in all headset?

Hummmmmmmm you might have a valid point there. Am going to wonder out to the shop and see. Never thunk of that. If that's it I get the DUH award for the week. :xzqxz:
